Transmission swap question

Hey I'm in the process of ordering odds and end pieces for my manuel tranny for the swap...and I cant seem to find what the plastic piece that the shifter connects to is called..is it part of the tranny itself??...and while I'm at it, for a first time stick driver would it be better if i had a stock shifter or just went ahead and put in a shortshifter :)

That's all part of the same mechanism. A TWM or B&M shifter is just a lever that you put into that piece, but you need a stock shift mechanism to begin with.

Keep in mind that if you have a GT-S, the shift mechanism is different depending on the vintage of your transmission.

the shifter is held in a housing, and like Jesse said depending on what tranny you put in will determine what housing you need.
