I just took my rims to the shop for tires and when I got home I noticed I left the hub centric ring in the box. Does anyone know what this is for? Is it ok that I didn't give it to them?

They shouldn't need them unless they are mounting the rims on your car.

Like Bling said, they don't need those rings to put tires on the rims.

Wheels are either hubcentric or lugcentric. Lugcentric wheels are resting on the lugs. Hubcentric wheels are centered and resting on this circular protrusion (don't know what the real name is) right in the center of hubs and the lugs are just used to hold the wheel onto the hub. The diameter of this protrusion is different on different cars. Aftermarket wheels tend to have a hole in the center that is big enough to fit over more than one car's hub 'protrusion'. So you get these rings that change the size of the hole in the wheel to fit that 'protrusion' and make your wheel hubcentric.

For example, the wheels that I use on my GSR are what my friend used to use on his Miata. Both cars have the same 4x100 bolt pattern, but we use different hubcentric ring sizes. So when I bought the wheels off of him, I just had to pull out his rings and order up a set from Tirerack that would make them fit my hubs. I hope you understood what my explanation. Otherwise I think Tirerack has something on their website which explains it too.

I've heard that you don't have to use the rings, but I've also heard this puts extra stress on the lugs and you may get extra vibration too. So I would use them.

I stopped using the ones with my Koseis because they kept getting jammed on the hub. I was having to use a chisel and hammer to get them off, so I said forget it, and I go without. They're not my daily drivers anyway...

I have Volks and I been trying so long to get hubcentric rings...

But then everyone told me I don't need them. And my ride is smooth. So I guess its only needed for certain applications.
