i was wondering what would be the best engine mounts and wat brand? becuase i am going to buy a new clutch and fly wheel so while i get the clutch and flywheel installed, might as well also get aftermarket engine mounts in to. thanks

you dont really need them unless you are making serious power...and i dont think there are any aftermarket or TRD mounts for the celica

Like how much is making serious hp? Let's say I want some where around 300 wheel Hp.......

They make a big difference in launching and shifting, no matter how much hp you have. Energy Suspension makes polyurethane inserts for the stock tranny mounts, and C-One makes full replacement mounts for everything (though they look just like polyurethane filled stock mounts).

I'll be getting a front engine mount in a deal I've got going, but I was contemplating on whether or not to put it in.
Are there any negative aspects that I should consider? Or is it completely worth doing?

Only negative is vibration at idle. The amount depends on your engine's idle RPM and which brand mount you have. If you've got an auto, forget about it.

No idea what brand it is. No need to fear, no auto for me. After it's warm the car idles around 600, goes lower on occasion.

Is it worth it?

Yeah, definitely stock. The only thing that could be different is that it might be filled with polyurethane, but that would squeeze its way out after a while. If you look at either side with the bolt hole through the middle, can you see any smaller holes around it by the rubber part? Should be maybe 4 other holes around there between the rubber and the outer metal if it's completely stock.

so engine mounts are really needed unless you have a good number on horses? all i have on my car right now are basic bolts ons cai, pulley, exhuast, etc. but have engine mounts will help me with launching and shifting? becuase i have a friend who might be selling me the ones that has urethane in em and debating if i should get em.

Engine mounts will work on a completely stock car, or a 400whp turbo one. The improvements will be very noticeable on both.

I'm running a semi solid engine mount from skreemin_trdgts, made shifting smoother and landing lift easier, but that car still has a bit of wheel hop depending on how you lanch it.

PTuning.com sells the ES front and rear mount inserts (made for the Matrix, but fits our mounts) for around $30. C-One sells full replacements (just stock mounts filled with rubber) for over $300.

You should get a rear mount, as well, to even out the distribution of stress. The soft rear mount is most likely what's resulting in wheel hop. so engine mounts also make shifting smoother? how does it help on landing lift easier?
Shifting helps both. It makes shifting at high RPM easier, since the tranny doesn't move around as much. that is a skreemin_trdgts mount stock one filled with urathane and welded sides :eatpop: Hmm, though he only made them in red and blue...

Mine was gloss black & that does look like one of skreemin's. It definitely improved shifting. Vibration has lessened over time. Gapping my plugs equally did help smooth things a lil. I haven't really been "launching" after installing... but I had alot of wheel hop before I installed it.

they're for matrix but I've heard they'll fit celica BTW these are inserts not the replacements.

Yes, they'll fit. They're the only polyurethane inserts out there. I know cause I have them on my car. ;)

You could install added/replace the bushings in the rear. However, from the posts in his sales thread, the rear mounts tend to be weak, so I haven't stiffened it. As, I recall... the price was around $150. But, search & find his thread. The feeling was, and it makes sense to me, that going solid in the front woud tend to reduce action on the rear mount and make it less susceptible to damage. If you also stiffen the rear w/a solid front mount on, you might run the risk of expediting rear mount failure. But, don't rely on my memory;) Find his mount thread.

I'm definitely in agreement with the others. Stiffening the mount made a definite shifting improvement. The vibe @ idle & very minor steering vibe @ speed are worth the benefits IMO.

& what the heck... you've got the mount already... might as well put it to use. If you don't like it... you can always go back to stock.... or try stock with different bushings or inserts. The front is an easy install.

Stiffening up the front would lessen movement up there, forcing more stress on the rear. Using an insert on the rear would reduce its movement, reducing stress and wear at the same time. The rear tears first most likely since it's right near the header, so it gets pretty hot when the car is running. The rubber in the front mount also seems a bit beefier than the rear, as well.

I still don't see how the rear mount will wear quicker if there is less overall movement. It would make since if with just a solid front mount the engine and tranny were pivoting on it like a lever and scretching or compressing the rear one. But there not because of engine mount placement. Ive never seen proff of otherwise, only of people assuming that it will wear quicker.

I duplicated skreemin's concept on my front mount, though now I have severe wheel hop, but it worked well when it was new. I believe the rear is badly worn now (I moded the front almost 2 years ago). I remember there use to be an engine dampener available, but there were many whom complained of metal fatique at the mounting location. The reason I bring this up is a lot of the RSX guys are running the J's racing dampener with positive results. Maybe we on this board need to devise a new setup with strengthened mounting points to the chassis or strut tower ang give this another shot. The RSX dampener is secured via a bracket that mounts to the strut/strutbar hardware.

but there were many whom complained of metal fatique at the mounting location. I seem to recall it blasting thru someone's fender. I also seem to recall that there is an engine dampener on the top rear left (belt end) of my Avy's engine. Perhaps that idea could be adopted?
