hi all
i dont want to sound negative but how easy is it for someone to steal our cars??? becasue i only just found out that the alarm has 5 setting i didnt know before.
when ive been parking it up in town and leaving it for hours to go to work i only lock it by pressing the lock button once but apparantly you can press it up to 4 times with different settings
my friend had i think was a new mercades stolen and i was wondering would it be that easy for some one to steal our cars???
could the imobilisor be by passed or something, its been worried me becasue iam leaving it in town for anything up to 8 hours at a time as my 2nd car blow up on me!!!!

ya know, now that i think about it...one day i decided to check just how 'secure' my car was... by reaching into the side of the door and physically pulling the handle from the interior the alarm went off.. i did this another time and nothing... i really have no idea and i seriously doubt i should ask the dealership due to the fact that their ignorant about every other question i have... i usually press lock 2 times. havent u noticed u gotta press unlock 2 times to unlock the trunk? sometimes this doesnt even work and i have to press it 3 times... its weird. and wtf kinda hood u live in to be scared to leave ur car for 8 hours?.....

I think the alarm system is pretty competent, they'd have a different system in the US to us in Britain. I'd be more worried about someone breaking into your house for the keys rather than trying to get around the alarm.

immobilizer can be bypassed easily. Just take the ecu out and put one without an immobilizer (IE. PFC, or just demobilized ecu)

a steering wheel lock will only slow down a determined thief, all you need is a hacksaw and cut the steering wheel and the lock is off.

It's all on how the alarm is programmed, the default setting is 2x to unlock all doors, but the button must be pressed for a second time within 3 seconds I think. When I had my Celica, I had it so one press of the unlock button would unlock all doors.
Bottom line is, if someone wants your car bad enough, they'll get it, alarm or not. An alarm nowadays is a nuisance to people and to thiefs, no one pays attention to them anymore.

yea the majority of cars stoloen is a honda. I'm not saying it can't happen but if someone is going to steal your car they are either really desperate because theres no hondas nearby lol. My friends car got stolen here at work ( integra ) he had that $600 alarm unit with the remote that vibrates if your car is going off. It was stolen during lunch time with no alarm going off or even making a noise. ( he has an extremely loud exhaust ) . We think it was towed away somehow. Was found few days later completely stripped and burned.

celica are almost like honda's you can peel the window and reach your hand inside and unlock the door as for the steering wheel its the same thign as an honda you just break the ignition once that is done the steering wheel isnt lock anymore

When I had my Celica, I had it so one press of the unlock button would unlock all doors.
Did you reprogram it like that or did the dealership do it? That would nice -- hitting the 'unlock' twice is annoyingly redundant, and the four beeps always draws unnecessary attention in crowded parking lots.
