hi im specbluegts's little brother. I drive a 97 acura integra and I just put a new lanzar 1000 watt 4 ch amp in and my door speakers make a loud whine sound when the car is on and it gets higher pitch as I accelerate. I tried a different grounding location but it wont go away. My brother said you guys know alot about stereos and might be able to help. Thanks for any suggestions.

High grade RCA cables, ensure the headunit is sufficiently grounded, possibly add a 1uf capacitor to the amp's B+ lead.... make sure everything is grounded well.... take B+ supply straight form the battery (fused) for the amp..

You can make up "terminating" RCA plugs and see if it is the amp... or the headunit. Do a search for whine... I think I put the instructions in one of those threads.

If its the amp... and all else fails... you can add a high current alternator filter. But, best place to start is the grounding & the cabling between the HU & the amp. It has to be good quality & well shielded.

What he said..... plus, even with high quality RCAs, make sure they are not running next to power cords, and if all else fails, you can try a ground loop isolator, since most alternator whine is caused by a ground loop somewhere in your system. If you can't locate it, the GLI is a cheap fix ($15) from Radio Shack. Some people say the GLI degrades sound quality, but damned if I've ever been able to hear it, and hell, it worked great. I'm no expert on this by any means, but I recently found a lot of info on this on a lot of audiophile and car stereo sites. They will give you loads of info.

you can also trying taping up the connections on the RCA with electrical tape. The bare metal can act like an antenna and pick up noise. This might help some bu ownt solve the problem.

Thank you for your help guys. I read all I could find searching for "whine" and actually learned a lot. I took my car to a audio shop and the guy looked at it and suggested a ground loop isolator. I bought one and the whine sound is gone. Thanks

Unless you're taping-shielding-taping just taping it won't do anything unless you had the connector laying on somethign else of bare metal.

Eletrical tape does make a difference, just a small one. It's non conductive so it does rid some interference.

Lower quality amps tend to have more issues with ground noise as well. Try another amp just to make sure it's not an issue with the amp itself, then check grounds on your deck.
