problem with my car

I have been trying to figure this out for a while but cant. My car doesnt seem to know the difference between hot and cold weather. It runs worse when it is cold out then when it is hot out. when it sould be runing better when it is cold out. and when it is pretty cold out and I am in 5th gear just before lift my car will hit a flat spot and not go anywhere it just stays at 5900 rpms. If anyone could help me with this I would appreciate it. thx

Is your car warm when you try to go into lift?
Your car wont hit lift if it isnt past 2 knotches up on your temp guage.

Well i mean if its cold lift wont engage just like andy said. But if lift wont engage even when ur cars warmed up maybe the temp gauge is messed up.

What are you doing at 6K in 5th gear on public roads?

actually my car will it lift when it is not warmed up all the way.....I used to have a stuck open thermostat and it wouldnt warm up all the way but it would still hit lift. and yes my car is warmed up when it hits the flat spot.
