The 1zz isn't too much money if you know where to look...
Lots of poeple will swap out their 1zs for 2zs and they'll just want to get rid of the 1z.
This is how I got a 1zz for less than it cost to ship it to me!
Put a post in the "want to buy" section and look around the mr2 forums, you'll find one sooner or later.
And no, no other engines can be put in the celica and have it be less $$ than putting in a 1zz (or 2zz for that matter).

im just pissed because i had someone rebuilt the engine bbout 1500 miles the harmonic balancer fell off.i was because it wasnt torqued correctly.so when the new shop i took it to the replaced the h.b. and found out me exhaust valves were bent.so off to the machine shop were they replaced the valves.the shop put everything together and about 2 months later it started to make a constent tapping noise.i took it back to the shop and said that there was shaving found in my oil and that only the top half was warrented.im just tired of getting it fixed and im looking for another engine.

call your local salvage yards i know it sounds like garbage but salvage yards usually get the good stuff. I got my 1zz from a cali salvage yard they freighted to me. Fixing new engines is pointless unless you take it to a specialist regular shops dont know squat unless its a 1990 civic.

Yeah, go there if you want to pay top dollar. The lowest price you can expect from car parts is around $1200. I got my 1zz for less than 1/3 of that price. Moral of the story: look around the forums. OH! And, if/when you get a 1zz, be sure it's froma post 2002 celica. ;)

i now agree that if you rebuild a engine that it will never run the same. unless you take it to toyota and pay 80-? per hour.i know that i cant afford that.i start working at a local honda dealership tommorow.maybe i can see if its worth having one of the techs to fix it or help me with a swap

Toyota changed a number of things in the post-02 1zzs, namely the block, pistons and a few other things. As I understand it the changes were made to improve oil flow and lessen the tendancy to consume oil.
