i just bought a Pioneer DEH-P8400MP deck for my Celi and a friend suggested I use screws with irregular shaped heads to prevent it from being stolen. But all the websites I've found deal directly with companies that buy these things in gross, and I need like 4. Also I haven't come across any security screws esp. made for car decks. Anyone know of a website, manufacurer, or even store that has these? thanx!

Please don't double post. I'd try Home Depot or a contractor supply store... I know they have them for electricians, and have a TON of stuff HD hasn't even heard of. I'm sure they have them for carpentry, general contractors, construction.... something that will have them. Although you may have to buy a box of 50 or something.

Where are you going to put the screws? Are you talking about the 4 on front (2 on top and 2 on bottom) or some other ones?

in my opinion, i wouldn't even bother with those screws.
Think about it.. if someone breaks into your car for your head unit they're gunna get it no matter what it takes. They'll cut through your dash or just rip it out somehow. And in the process, they'll probably do more damage then they would have done if they could have gotten it out. It will only piss the thief off more if they can't unscrew it.. and if they CAN'T get it they'll most likely take it out on your car another way.
Either way, you can't win.

The reason i asked that question earlier, is because its still pretty simple to take the deck out, if its the front 4 screws. Craftsman has that new damaged screw remover. It'll fit into almost any shape screw head. So it'll easily take those screws out.

well i was just wondering cuz i have had my deck stolen twice. my friend told me about these screws because he used them and when some assholes tried stealing his deck, they weren't prepared for the 4 different heads so they just gave up. even if they tried cutting out the dash i imagine that would take them longer and make considerably more noise, possibly alerting someone to call the cops. or they would just leave. that's just my opinion...when my first deck got stolen ($800), i had to wait a half a year before the cops were done using it as "evidence"...they kept telling me they would give it back next month...but i got sick of 4 months w/o music so i just bought another deck...i bet they put it in one of their cruisers

yeah, i was talking about the front 4 screws...that's true that they may have something like that, but most of the people in my area probably wouldn't think of that...i also have a hard time imaging any damaged screw remover fitting into something like the snake eyes screw heads:

Oh wow, i've never seen a screw head like that snake eyes. It will possibly take them longer to take the deck, but if they really want it, they'll get it. I guess any security is better than no security.

Your basicly f*cked...The celica is so easy to jack the deck out of..there's nothing the deck is mounted to that can't be easily broken...My Buddies Alpine TV was stolen twice...Both times they just destroyed the center consold and just ripped it out. They didnt even bother with the stock bolts that hold it in....After that my buddie tried to have the installers really bolt that **** in...The next time, they really f*cked up the dash ripping everything out...They even took the time to remove the processor from underneath the seat...Pretty sad ****....
Really, the best method is just getting a detachable faced deck...And whats sad is Ive seen people get there decks stolen even without the faces....
Just get a killer alarm with a backup battery and an internal ground and keep a gun at your side while you sleep......
