I am currently about to sell my 96 civic and pick up a 2000 celica gt. The person im getting the car from is having trouble finding an aftermarket intake manifold to replace the stock plastic one. There has to be some aftermarket manufacturer for this part. The car is not a GTS, only a GT. I personally have found several for the GTS but none for the GT. I figured... if anyone would know it would be you guys. Thanks for the info... Also just a side question, the celica is in really good condition, kept by a military guy. Hes gonna give it to me for 7 grand with 100000 miles on it. Mostly highway miles. Hes going back overseas and needs to get rid of it. Is there anything i should look for in the car to make shure its in good condition?

as far as i know, there are no aftermarket intake manifolds for either of the celica's. for checking to see if the car is still good. it's always good to test drive it shifting through all the gears. doing down shifts, making sure the gears do not grind. for the motor you can do a leak down test. i believe the sell that at sears or any automotive hardware store. check the oil. see if it's in good condition. look at the coolant overflow. make sure its not burnt. that's all i can think of right now.

thanks for the quick input. Unfortunetly, the car is a automatic. Im thinking im going to miss my civic for that reason. The reason i ask about the manifold is that he said something about a common problem where because its made of plastic it heats up and changes shape, losing the seal... I found it hard to believe that if that was the case then there wouldnt be an aftermarket aluminium part to replace it with... I wonder if the real problem isnt the gasket and he just doesnt know.

Is there anything i should be aware of for this specific year and make, was what i meant to ask. Thanks for the reply though.

i have never heard of that happening. at all. the olny reason i think it would leak is if he removed the manifold and didn't tighten it down to spec's, and/or didn't change the gasket. or the manifold might have cracked.

as for a specific year for an auto gt. i believe the boly difference's are that 2003+ have black interior. i don't know if they have dbw though. if your buying this car for performance, i suggust you save a little more and get a used 00-01 manual gt-s.

alright. That makes me feel better. I live in key west FL. and its hard to find good used cars here... in fact, after searching for a used GT-s i found a total of three, all in miami. They were all for 13,000 and up, which is a little out of my price range. Im a high school senior. The reason that im interested in this car, is that i know it has been taken care of, and 7 grand is less than the blue book value. The interior is immaculate. Performance isnt quite an issue, especially since almost any car i buy is going to be faster than my 103 Hp 96 civic. (thats including exaust and cold air intake...) I like fast cars... but its better that i dont have a car too fast because i do stupid things... like see how fast the car can go... Plus, a few years down the road, if i have some money, i can always put a turbo in it. I think ive talked myself into this car, and im real excited because i like celicas a lot.

don't make the same mistake i did i know you want your car asap. I got my car in highschool as well. I didn't wanna wait to find a 00 GTS. now i wish i had. and yes you can find 00 GTS's for like 8-9k . Of course with alot of mileage but well worth it.

Got my 00 GTS for 8k with 90k miles. I say keep ur civic a little longer. An auto GT is a mistake if u plan on doing anything to ur car later on. Yeah the price may seem great, but u can put as many bolt on mods etc. and still not equal a stock HP GTS.

The GT is great for turbo, but not an Auto. Just think about what u want to do to ur car, as a daily driver/show car ur fine, but dont look for much in performance.

:( gah... i know you guys are right. I found a 2000 GTS with like 65,000 miles, sunroof, everything power, 5 speed manual, for 9950. im looking into it... After i thought about it i was like, there right... thats why i love my civic so much... u can change everything and make all the performance changes u want. Thanks all for dealing with me. Ill keep ya all posted.

the GTS doesnt come in 5 speed, only 6 speed.

hm... so does that make this a typo... most likely a GT and not a GTS

Typo... tail shot is of a GT-S. Needs to be checked for broken lift bolts. As it is past the 60K Drivetrain warranty, it would be your dime to get it fixed.
