View Full Version : AEM CAI gen2 properly installed? CEL came on

I know it's common for CEL's to come on after installing a new intake, but the reason I'm asking about this is that I installed my intake with no instructions and I'm not sure if I did it right. I also seem to be getting much much worse gas mileage than before on this first-tank-after-the-install, so I don't know if it's a fluke or what (I did reset the ECU, or at least I pulled the fuse that one of the installs showed to pull).

I bought it on these forums from someone and he sent no instructions, and when I asked for them he said he couldn't be of any help. I looked on the AEM site and found nothing. I searched these forums and couldn't find any links that weren't dead for the gen2 AEM's. I looked on the internet for stuff and found similar links but most of them weren't as thorough as I needed (I'm a newb to cars, hence why I'm posting here). I looked at pictures of installs and while they helped it was still hard to tell sometimes what hose was coming from where. So, here are some pics I took of my intake and I'm hoping someone can just tell me whether or not everything is where it should be.

Here are the pics I took with explanations.....

It's a GT-S.

And getting a copy of the directions would be a life-saver. I asked for them somewhere else in these forums and got a lot of "omg you idiot, do a search!" answers. I had already searched a lot before posting, so getting that as a reply was more than frustrating.

the back opening with that cap and screw isnt suppose to go there. i believe it is used to help mount and secure the intake

Seems I really botched this up. :( If anyone can send me a copy of the instructions or just tell me what to do I'd really appreciate it. I'd really like to fix it tonight since I have to take it out tomorrow and I don't want to do any more damage to it than I might have already (if I have......... which I hope not).

You can call AEM and ask them to send you the directions. When I bought a used CAI from someone they didnt give it to me and I called and they sent it to me.

Sucks to be me, then. I already have it on the car and have been driving around with it. I have classes starting tomorrow and no time to take it off and put the OEM back on. I guess I'll have to get up early unless someone feels like scanning their directions for me so I can switch hoses around before I leave tomorrow.

Regardless, I still appreciate the help you guys are offering. Being new at cars and trying to do this stuff on your own isn't easy, but you guys help out a lot.

Thanks everyone. I managed to finally get in touch with the people at AEM after calling all day long and leaving messages. A very sweet girl at the sale's department managed to send me a pdf file of the instructions. I actually had the hoses connected properly, but I think my one major error was the blue plug that you can see in the fourth picture. It's not supposed to be plugged in there, the black plug in my hand is actually supposed to be plugged in there. I realized when I went out to look at the intake closer and to mount the wires properly. I reset the ECU and my CEL has gone away, so hopefully it'll stay that way now. Thanks everyone.
