Where the hell should I mount this thing? As you can see, it would fit well in place of my stock gauges....

but I'm not sure if I should put it there or at the top of my center console, like so....

When I seen Brian Hill's digital dash in his MR2 a few years ago, I wanted one, but didn't want to pay that much money for one.
Hill's dash....

But since my stock gauges will not go high enough to monitor my RPM's and speed, I bought the MXL Strada. Plus it plugs directly into my new EMS and monitors a few other things very accurately with warning lights to let me know if there are any problems with my motor.
What do you guys think?

how much was this?
you can mabe make a fb molding, paint it black...which sits in the back of the new dash just to hide the old one

I would find a way to mount it in front of the tach, and speedometer, while keeping the gas/temp display in view. Unless that thing you bought can monitor how much gas you have left.
But yeah, if it were me, I wouldn't put it anywhere else except where the stock cluster is. ;)

yea you defintly want it in front of you and not on the center console, a.) so you can read it and b.) because that computer would look out of place in the middle. Like evil said figure a way to mount it stock, maybe just make a beauty board of some type to mask out the stock gauges

It cost 1k. It's cool, but there are definitely better ways to spend $1000. I just happen to run out of stuff to buy, so I buy stuff like like this now. Fiberglass molding would be the way to mount this though. That or carbon fiber.

The stock gauge cluster would have to go away because this would cover everything. I would need to move things like the fuel gauge, blinker indicators etc. and hook them up to aftermarket lights or gauges. Not sure how hard that would be. This would be a question for somebody like Dooly.

I am leaning towards it going in place of the stock gauges for a couple reasons...
1. Keep it from getting washed out by the sun.
2. Keep the center console free for the other things that still need to go on my dash somewhere....turbo timer, HU, DVD monitor and the other gauges I still have to find a place for, like boost, nitrous, EGT, fuel pressure, volts etc. I also need a switch panel that will be easy to reach for switches like....high/low boost, nitrous arming, purge, nitrous bottle opener, nitrous activator, anti-lag, traction control etc.
3. Easier to read when it is straight in front of me.

Indeed.
Behind the steering wheel seems to be unanimous. Not sure why I thought the center console would be a good place for it. Besides the fact that putting it at the top of the center console would be higher and I wouldn't have to look down between my steering wheel to keep an eye on this thing.
That and it would be cool to tape my speed and RPM's when I start making videos. With a video camera mounted on my roll bar, this digital dash would be in the videos.

Now that I think about it, somebody has to make an aftermarket fuel gauge. Find one of those and you'l' be set. You don't need turnsignals on the interior with a car like yours. :D

I'm not sure either, two cars off the top of my head that do that are the saturn ION and the Echo! :ugh:
Make it a full replacement for the speedo/tach, that would be sick Eric.... siiiiiiiiiiick!

Of course they make aftermarket fuel gauges Joe.
As for not having blinker indicators....the older I get, the more I forget to turn my blinkers off. You don't want me to be that old man driving down the freeway, looking like a dumbass with his blinker on do you?

My wife and I drove drove the Scion Xa when we were shopping to get her a car. She didn't buy it because she hated the gauges in the center of the dash. I liked it because I lean to the right when I drive for some reason. The gauges in the center seem to work well for me.
She went with a Matrix though. Also a very good car. Plus I should know the 1zz inside and out before too much longer and should be able fix any problem on her car.

Thanks Sultan. No luck on the harness bar. Those guys are taking on way too much work lately. They have now pushed my car to the side and have stopped working on it. Kind of upsetting, but we can't really do much until my tranny get's here anyway.
BTW, your TB should be at your door any day now.

Very nice. I do need to sell all these gauges that I have. I think it would be very cool to have all digital gauges that will match the digital dash. Thanks emotart.

eric, if you put it on the center console, make it angle towards you....that would look good

That's what I would also do fiberglass the center console and throw some gauges underneath and angle it toward's you.

I don't know Juan, seems like that would look really weird. It would be easy to read like that though.

It's used in race cars, but I'm not sure if it's used in F1 cars.

You have great taste in mods, but "Mount my digital dash on my steering wheel"? Don't you think that would look a little funny?

Thanks Dooly. How hard would it be to move the indicators from my stock gauge cluster to another panel?
