yes but as long as its a toyota motor in there its ok...just look at honda...the use acura motors in their cars and still call it a civic...sure civic running 12.xx all motor...i think its fair if we put any toyota motor in our cars and still call it a celica!!!

umm... i hope you know honda makes acura and if you open a hood of any acura you will see honda on the engine so if an intrga's engine is in a civic its still a honda and if a civic engine is in an acura its still a honda period. like a lexus is a toyota its just american people like names and the like cuz in japan toyota thats all it is and honda thats all it is hope you get what i mean

Its a Toyota, TRD is funding this team and it was in the Finals I think in Gatornationals, the Semis in Vegas and the quarters in Pomona last month. Hey guys be proud I believe Toyota is the first import manufacturers to run with the big boys. I don't think Honda has even tried yet. Once you see an NHRA race, the import drags are a joke.

if it's made by Toyota, it's 100% Toyota parts (or maybe Yamaha in some cases :chuckles: ). just because those parts aren't gonna fit on the celica doesn't mean it's some alien brand.

In this particular case Brian is probably right. I'm guessing there is nothing used in that car that is used by a Toyota anything-anywhere. That being said I still think it is neat that Toyota is getting the exposure from sponsoring pro drag racing. In this class Toyota is no worse off than Chevy, Ford or Pontiac in regard to parts used. :)

Funny.... I don't recall saying that it wasn't a Toyota! All I said was that it wasn't a CELICA in my book. It's pretty simple - no celica parts, then its NOT a Celica. If it has Toyota parts (OEM or otherwise), it may be a Toyota, but that's not what I said.;)

They just put the names and some body styles on these race cars even though they don't have anything that is their consumer counterpart for marketing, recognition and advertisement for the car company so people can relate to them. Do you think the cars in NASCARS are just like the cars that people buy?

The guy is supporting the Celica name, increasing public visibility, and adding value to the Celica brand. Cut the guy some slack guys! Yeah - it's not a Celica under the hood. None of us think so. It isn't much less a Celica than Rado's (running a 3RZ 4Runner engine).

I doubt there is any 'little' Toyota motor that could push upwards of 1500 HP... (not including of course, the V12 2988cc F1 motor - or a crazy built 3RZ or 2JZ - and even those two are doubtful)

That's not what FunnyCar, TopFuel and ProStock are about. They are about brand image, advertising, and marketing. I for one will happily support this racer - because he's doing something for Celica owners - supporting our brand.
