hi everyone, I am very interested in the new released Greddy sc,
I was wondering
1. does it have a controller that allows you to control when you want the supercharger to kick in. (like the Blitz sc)
2. will I be able to install a BOV?
3. since it doesn't come with a intercooler, do I have to get one? is it a must for sc?
thank you guys for answering those questions

im not aware of any controller that tells the S/C to kick in, other than your foot on the pedal...

From what I understand the magnacharger's bypass valve solves both 1 and 2. Heat isn't as much of an issue with it because it isn't a true roots supercharger, but rather a hybrid roots/twinscrew.

The air comes into the supercharger and then out to the intercooler then into the throttle body. Much more like a turbo set up as where the throttle body closes and the boosted air surges back to the compressor which is where the bark sound comes from. Surge is not good for turbos but I doubt it will hurt a supercharger. Hope this helps answer some of the questions.
hope that answers most of your questions

Does that mean that it can't be done at all? Or it just wouldn't make sense because there is really no surge when the throttle closes? Or maybe a ricer just like the hissing sound :)

Its got the bypass valve built-in, so no. And for the intercooler, I believe someone is working on a way to incorperate one into the system to cool the air charge and get the numbers we really want out of it

a slightly off topic post here:
do you guys run SC on stock internals?

you could, but its advised you lower compression (on GTS, to that fact any high compression engine). then reinforce the engine (if you want to run higher boost).

i see.
that's the question that's been bugging me since people have been talking about SC. i know for TC though, it's will be much better to lower the compression to around 8 odd.
SC on the other hand have not been really discussed.
as for reinforcing.. how so? brace the block? or usage of better conrods, valve springs, etc?

^^^ forged pistons, forged conrods, sleeves, stainless steel valves, stiffer springs, retainers. also dont forget the bolts: studs and things like that. your tranny will need work too, flywheel, and depending on how much hp ur gonna put down, clutch upgrade. check out MWR they have alot of things that can help.

keke..i'll be damm.. plenty of stuff to work on.
i'm actually just driving the auto ss2. and was thinking of the SC to improve on the lowend. to give it the torque it requires.
dun suppose you know what kind of boost, psi this SC runs?

ahem.. rice boy
seriously though if the "sound" is all your worried about sell your Celica and buy a turbo car.

the sound is not all that i am concerned about but i would also like to know if it would be possible in anyway to put a blow off valve on the kit?

no

Nope. No intercooler could fit eather. Hopefully Greddy will offer an aftercooler for the kit with a smaller pulley for us to gain some power. If this ever becomes available, then you'll need forged pistons and stuff like this. But if you let it stock (SC) the only thing you will need is a better clutch.

thanks for all your answers,
but I still have one question, I have a 02 GTS with the rev limiter, can the Greddy e-manage move up the limit? (like Apexi Power FC) ?

No, only a full standalone like a PFC can do that.

would you not have to have a completely different manifold if you were going to try to put an intercooler on?

To have an intercooler with this kind of SC, you need to flip it 180degre like Blitz did. So on this SC it is imposible to do (only if you rethink it from a to z).
This is why I am hoping for an aftercooler. Usualy it is in form of and air to water system. Basicly the same thing as a radiator but around the SC instead of the engine.

or buy that "make your car sound like a turbo" thing that u attach to ur exhaust...

The way the bypass valve works is that it sits open when in a high vaccum condition. As soon as your floor it. The Manifold vaccum drops and the bypass valve pops closed and you have instant boost. There is only about 8 inches of boosted air between the blower and the valves. So if you figure out a way to stick a BOV in there good luck. But it probably wont do anything cause the second you let off the gas there is a big throttle plate that cuts off the air before it even gets compressed. so by the time its open the engine will have already ate all your boost that you could get a sound with. Sorry

does anyone know how much the labor might be if I take it to a shop to install?

I think it will be more of a barking noise. At least that's what the guys with the blitz s/c said theirs was like before they added a BOV. I hope it's loud and ugly like they said theirs were

The greddy will not have that sound because the throttle is before the supercharger
