I was looking for supercharger on ebay and found this electric supercharger.. i have my doubts about it. Does anyone know if this thing is even worth it?

I doubt that this ebay one really works. I forgot who makes them but there is a company that makes good working electric superchargers. they cost alot and are basically superchargers powered by 3 strong electric motors and you have to add more power for the supercharger like an extra battery in your trunk and it's only good for a short time when you push the button kinda like nitrous. so for 400-600 you can get a nitrous kit and it'll do the same thing with better performance gains. if you simply put a powerful fan in your intake charge it's not really going to do anything, could hurt performance it has to be an air compressor that can actually produce boost not just CFM of air. ur intake vacuum probably pulls more than 120cfm so if that's true then the electric supercharger that they're selling probably won't produce any gains and could hurt them because you've got all that stuff blocking your intake.
lets do math..
CFM = Cubic feet per minute
Engine displacement is 1.8 liters = 1800 ccs
120 sq ft = 111480 ccs
an engine has an intake stroke on 2 cylinders per rotations and the engine redlines at 7800rpms so
1800 / 2 * 7800 = 7020000 cc's of air per minute
7020000 ccs = 7556 CFM @ 7800rpm or alot more than 120cfm
now this isn't exactly accurate to the amount of air the car is getting because there are things like flow and valve timing etc that determine how much air actually gets into the cylinders especially at higher rpms. But as you can see ur engine is sucking alot harder than that fan they're selling on Ebay can push.

I know of some that actually push out 3 psi, at something like 15000 cfm. But i just don't know about electric sc's. just save the money and save for something proven.

Just think about what would happen if one of plastic blades (or any other piece from the 'supercharger' itself) broke and got sucked up into your motor.... :scared:
Just keep this rule of thumb, if its cheap...then 9/10 it doesnt work. I use the word cheap in respect to that youre attempting to get a $160 part to perform like a part that costs more than $2000.

You only get to pick 2. IMO...stay away from that POS.

Although all three of us think this is a really stupid question, I have been instructed to let people ask as many stupid questions as they want to. My instruction is that it isn't up to me to decide if a question is dumb or not, merely to move it to the appropriate location. Since he's asking about a supercharger, I moved it here.
