I was curious about doing dual exhaust out the back... Any one have any ideas... products, companies, etc? would appreciate it... I've never ****ed with exhaust before, but want to make it look and sound sweet... :burnout:
thanx

Dual exhausts look bad on hatchbacks. Don't bother. Save your money and get a better performing single outlet exhaust.

i've heard dual exhausts somehow make u lose power on and i-4, but i could be mistaken....... i like the way it looks.. but when u only have 140, each hp counts.... not gonna pay money to make the car slower :gap:

That depends, it's most likely gonna be a Y-pipe so it won't hurt performance but it will weigh down the car...

dual exhaust with an already slow 4 cylinder = you become more slow.

Ni's are the sh*t. I am very happy, and not alot of loss int power. Definate gain on the top end, perfect for road racing for me.

What year? A turbo? The stock exhaust on those cars was pretty nice.

How would a Y-pipe lose more performance though?

yakkosmurf
04-30-2002, 01:10 PM
Any split or bend in a pipe impedes airflow and changes the Reynolds number of the system.

It is a long-long sad tale but basically had to do with kids in school, commuting and me wanting a muscle car. :(

PS - Mine had the moonroof which I had no idea was so rare until I started looking again and they all have the t-tops.

the piping on that 1st car without the spoiler is done really nice and clean.. where was it done?

RXvedub
05-01-2002, 07:02 PM
Thanx guys,

The piping was done at
Champion Mufflers in Receda,CA
They are an old school, old people american car type of place, thats why they are good.

The mufflers are Apexi N1's. I got them at the Apexi garage sale for $50 a piece. I also have the silencers for the which I use for daily driving.

VERY little lose on bottom end, but definate gain on top, wich is good for me because I like rode racing.

That is an axle back.

Any questions, feal free to as.

I know some I4 engine cars have dual exhaust, like the old MR2-T and the S2000, but aside from looks is there any performance benefit to an I4 car? I always thought the point of dual exhausts was to run from each side of a V engine. Each side has a header that leads to an exhaust. Why go from one header to a Y to a dual exhaust on an I4?

Pure Racer

Oh oops, I meant like the TRD, I forgot what that was called... I want another TRD tip but nothing matches it, I also want a smaller tip, maybe I should go to an exhaust place and have them use my TRD exhaust as a y-pipe and change the tips and stuff...

I got two apex n1's ( the smaller N/A ones not the turbo ones) center exit w/ 2.5" mandrel exhaust pipe. I don't understand how people can be so picky with the weight issue. If it's weight you're concerned about then fly your spare tire/ rip out your back seats and go on a diet or something... A Y-pipe and about a foot or two of 16 guage aluminized steel weighs about 6 lbs, and the other muffler weighs about... let's just assume 20 lbs so about 26 lbs total on top of the existing system. Dude, just take out your interior and your a/c and your cruise control and go to the track with a 1/4 tank of gas... That'll more than make up for that measly 26 lbs.

And I bet it aint gonna make that much of a difference anyway.
Better yet just nitrous your sh!t to make up for the "power/ weight ratio"...Nitrous don't care how heavy you are.

Anyway the exhaust setup works good especially in lift, if torque is what you want don't go too big on the pipe size. 2.25" is big enough w/ a straight- through muffler.

well, his car wont be a joke if he gets the turbo on that mofo. I dont particularly like the wing setup or the altezzas, but it wont matter if his car outperforms my ass.

damn some people are picky about other peeps' cars. he bought it if he likes it good enough don't have to do it to your own.

and i guess if enry ounce counts, tear your car apart to make it lighter but 26 pounds ain't gonna make that much difference

damn

I think it looks sick! Not ricey at all. I don't like how people hold others' to their own standards. I hate to tell all you "rice-haters" out there, but to some people, any japanese car is "ricey," and no matter what you do to the celica, its rice. I dont personally agree with that, and i think that most people on this board feel the same way. I also don't think that his car is ricey, but thats my personal opinion. I personally don't like the big wing-spoilers, but that doesn't stop me from taking a step back and appreciating the beauty of a fully decked car. If that car is rice, then so is every car in every import mag that i've seen. Maybe some people are just jealous that they can't afford everything they want, so they complain about what others have. Don't want to get on a rant here, but I think we should be offering each other as much support as possible, not slandering each others cars.

no performance benefit on an inline engine, period.

you're losing HP by doing it.

Ummmm...that's not a "dual exhaust". Dual outlet yes, but not true dual exhaust. There is still only one pipe from the exhaust manifold collector back to the y-pipe behind the axle. A true dual exhaust applies to a V or flat engine where each "bank" of cylinders has it's own separate exhaust piping, from the manifold collector on back to the exhaust tip. An inline 4 with it's single exhaust manifold is simply a no go for a true dual setup. Unless you had a separate collector for two cylinders which is just not done. Just an FYI :)
