I want to make a carpeted cover for my spare tire to hold a tool set, jack, and my sub's amp. Just need suggestions on what to make it out of. I was thinking thin MDF, but would that be too heavy or weak (I'm talking 3/8" thick or less)? I'll either be mounting brackets or straps to hold everything in (minus the amp, which will be screwed on), so the cover material needs to be strong enough to permanently support these. I was also looking at ABS plastic, since I can bend it to fit better, but it's expensive...

Would a metal mesh work?....

If it would, it might help keep your amp cooler. Isn't it bad to hang amps upsidedown?

Only thing I'd worry about is it bending out of shape after a while. The amp will be mounted on feet to separate it from the carpet the cover will be covered in. It'll be mounted on maybe a 50-60 degree angle, but on the outside of the cover (no real room underneath).
Only cuz we have alot around work... Aluminum? strong & light... carpet over it... or not... would add heatsinking for the amp... if metal to metal.... or even pick up diamond plate like the floor plates....
