Toyota Envy

Hey, do you Aussie guys find that you are constantly harrassed by people with 'Toyota Envy'. I find that every clown in a 4 cylinder wants to race the Celica.

This includes Excels, Pulsars, Geminis, Swifts, Civics, Barinas, Charades and numerous other POS's that could not even come close to the Celica.

The worst offenders seem to be Honda drivers, especially Civics, but also preludes and (non Type R) integras.

Have any of you had similar experiences?

The funniest thing was when I was driving my 'lightly modified' '87 Corolla hatch, some tosser pulled up beside me in a new SS Commodore. I was (obvioulsy) not the least bit interested in racing and didn't even glance over at the guy. When the lights changed green he absolutely floored it, constantly looking around to see if I was keeping up!

I nearly had to pull off the road to regain my composure because I was laughing so hard!

So, you guys find this happens a lot, or is this just a Canberra thing?

yeah i know, some ppl dont know their class
my car is silver with full kit n rims.
i always get excels up my a$$ like their micheal schumacher or something. they never drag me, just hang up my rear trying to egg me on.
i stay cool like, yeah good one mate!

it happens all the time. my exhaust is loud, so any car that hears it wants to run straight away. hehehehe
it happend to me tonite on the way home from work. a guy in a pulsar SSS heard my exhaust as I took off from the lights, i wasnt even intersted in running, just couldnt be bothered. but he gave it a hit and i heard his exhaust so i thought what the hell. So at the next lights, i showed him how hot the arse end of my celica is. hehehe

I normally only race cars of similar perofrmance or higher. Only time I waste some fuel on a slower car is when the driver is acting cocky. I get egged on quite a bit but I don't really like to race on the streets that much.

Most disapointing challenege would be, against a lightly modified Mitsubishi Lancer GSR when I rev'd to high on my launch and messed up my ran against him through 2nd gear and gave up.
Wanted a rematch but he said that his clutch was stuffed, I was kicking myself.

thats the problem with having such an aggresive looking car...every tom, **** & harry wants a piece of ya !

i agree with most of ya and hate it when pulsars rev @ ya.....i had a bunch of guys in a V6 commodore revving at me last weekend and i was like "nooo guys" but i couldnt help it....you just want to shut them up in awww....i had like 3 car lenghs on him just after shifting into 2nd and then they come past waving thier hands in the air like "common you ****....we can still beat ya....Pfft"
then i stop at the traffic light next to em and the most typical response i hear from commodore heads is...."err is that a turbo?"......."NO WANKER ITS ALL NATURAL....AND THAT HIGH SCREAM YOU HEARD COMMING FROM IT MEANS YOU DONT **** WITH IT !!!!"

Yeh, Pulsar drivers are the funniest. Somehow Nissan has managed to dupe SSS buyers into thinking it's a sports car, when they really are quite lame.

I had a SSS try to race me through the mountains. I was in front but the traffic was fairly bad. As soon as there was a sniff of clear road I would pull away BIG TIME. But then we would come up to slower traffic and he would catch up and tail-gate me thinking that he was keeping pace.... loser!

Another tried racing me on a twistie section of road, this time he was in front. He was a bit surprised when he could not gain an inch on me no matter how hard he pushed it. He got the shock of his life when I breezed past him on a straight section while he was going 'flat out'!!

Don't know if yall have driven a SSS, but I have driven several and seat of the pants impressions rate them barely faster than my 15year old 1.6litre (carbueretted) Corolla.

It's quite a joke what they try to sell as a "performance' car these days!

hehhehehehe. There are so many guys out there with SSS pulsars & swift GTI who think they are a match for the celica. they have an exhaust and a filter and they think they can clean up. Many a night il be driving home and some clown will pull alongside revving like a ****head. Its even more fun when you pull away and then stop at the next lights and they cant even look at you.

Lets here some stories of good runs against cars here in Australia. All the ones on the racing page are about american cars that we cant compare with in most cases. Lets here about the Honda or BMW or Holden V8 (now thats fun) or whateva you have run, whether you won or lost is not an issue, just give us a good story.

couple of weeks ago, i was crusing with platnm in the city and then platnm jumps a traffic light and i get at it. A commodore sedan VT plus up next to me in a bus lane. in his lane there is a car parked about fifty meters in front...i knew he wanted to run. So my friend and i sit there waiting for the lights to turn green. I see the other direction traffice light turn yellow.....i rev to about 3700rpm and launched it.....(it was one of my best launches....had just enough wheelspin and car didnt bog down) by the time i hit lift in 1st gear, im half a car lenght in front of him....when i hit lift in second gear he was a 1 and a 1/2 car lengths behind me.....he had to back off other wise he was gonna hit the parker car!!!

I catch up to platnm and we both get caught at a set of lights...we are side by side....i was gonna race platnm...( the sound of two cars hitting lift is an awsome sound). While we are waiting for the lights to turn green another VT comm pulls up next to platnm....you could tell there was gonna be a drag for sure now. Platnm had for people in his car and i had two......platnm launched the celi and absolutely killed the comm, even with the full load and i think he even had the air con on!!!!

Pulled up to the lights and a black R33 GTR is next to me at the line. I could hear his BOV going of as he reved his engine. I decide to let it go because I'd get canned so badly it would'nt be funny. He was driving in a group of three cars. Behind him was a green previous shape WRX and a yellow late eighties boxy shape Corolla. I noticed that the Corolla would be more of a each match because I could hear either his turbo or supercharger spinning up while he reved his engine.

So I let both the tough sounding R33 and fully worked WRX fly past as the lights go green. I had my gf in my car and he had a passenger in his. Rolling pretty slow in 1st gear and waiting for both of our cars to be even. Both floor it at the same time and I pull ahead but about 1/2 a car. He shifts first into 2nd and I have a lead by about 1 to 1 and a half cars. I rev all the way to 8500rpm and chirp for the 2nd gear change and he now starts to pull on me. By about 85km/h he pulls up even and starts to pull away and I can hear his supercharger spinning up hard. By 100km/h he is like 1-2 cars ahead of me.

Get to the next set of lights and we both give each other the thumbs up and I turn off to drive my gf home. Then I noticed that his car gets a featured in Hot4's last issue I think.
