I'd like to go with a 225 section width tire, but I like the 16" stock GTS rims. I have heard a few members have this set up. Can someone post a pic of their set up and share your experiences?

Thanks

I am interested as well. I would like to know how a GTS looks and drives with 225's on the stock 16's. Any pics and or opinons would be appreciated.

It's possible I suppose. However, I am guessing you would be going with 225 45 16 and the suggested rim width range is 7"-8.5" on that size tire.

Yes the 45 series I believe has the same rolling diameter as the 205-50 series tire. I know a 6.5" rim is pushing it, but I like the style of the stock rim and want to keep a 16 inch rim diameter for performance purposes.

I had 225's on my gts wheels..
Suspension at the time was sportlines/kyb agx.

Meaty. Would that have a negative effect on sidewall stiffness, since they're kinda stretched outward compared to 205s' almost straight up and down sidewalls?

A better fit than I thought. Are those 225-50s or 225-45s? They look like 50 series which are taller than the stock tires.

can we fit 225/50 with the stock 16s??? anything negative about it?

225 45 16 is the same overall diameter as the stock 205 50 16, i would go with that size. you can fit 235 in there with the right offset wheel, but not with the stock 16's. 235 40 17 works with a 17 x 8 wheel, 35 offset.

Before you go cramming a 225 on that stock GT-S rim, check your tire's recommended sizes on Tirerack. I have to believe that with even a 50 series sidewall the stock GT-S 16 is not wide enough. You're basically begging for something bad to happen.

According to the recommended wheel width guides available online, a 45 series tire won't work, but using a 50 series tire, a 225 or even a 235 section width will work.

Unfortunately, this means the tire diameter will be around 10% or greater than the stock tire = a significant decrease in wheel torque. It looks like if I want 225's I'll need to buy 7.5" or 8" rims. That's too bad because I really like the style of the stock rims.

It looks like the sidewall for this type of tire is deep enough for this application. What will happen however is the multiplied torque to the ground will be less (higher gearing effectively) and this will slow down acceleration.

18's will be even worse unless you purchase a really thin sidewall tire which will hurt ride and make it easier to curb the rim.
