i was at best buy looking at HU's and the install guy said if i bypass my factory amp and run the door tweeters off the HU amp that i would blow them up because the amp has the crossover built in. he told me that i needed these "speaker savers" to protect them. basically looks like a inline crossover. anyway i was wondering, if this is true and if anyone had done this. thanks

No it's not true, the component sets have first-order crossovers built in.

so the tweeters are fed from the 6.5's in the door?

The stock tweeters look to have something like a high pass filter built into them.

i used to be a manager for the car audio part of the best buy in my area, it was our job to shove all the accesories we could down your throat wether you needed them or not, it is recomended to use them honestly, there is a small crossover on the tweets but it is designed to work with the factory amp, the head unit may send different signals and you can run the risk of blowing them one way to find out and thats to run them without the " bass blockers " that best buy is trying to sell you

aahh i remember those days, i sold everything in that damn store. i love going in there now and buying something, letting them go through theyre little speeches and presentations and then walking away. then i like to laugh at the people who actaully walk out of there with $500 worth of accessories for a $50 dvd player

Putting "Bass blockers" in line with your tweeters is only going to shift the crossover point up. This will leave a gap in the frequency response (some people do like this). Most bass blocker caps are much larger in value (Farads) than the inline caps used for tweeters, so the shift shouldn't be huge. If you're going to dump a lot of power into these, you should probably upgrade to better components, though a 2nd or 3rd order crossover will help.
BTW that is a 1st order high-pass filter (Capacitor, with the speaker acting as the resistor) attached to the tweeter in the image. Presumably the woofer has an inductor with an appropriately selected value to form a low-pass filter with a corresponding corner frequency.
If you're going to use filters of order greater than 1 you should generally use active filters (these are powered and go before the amp), but that's another topic I think.

The point is you don't need additional parts unless you are putting a lot more power into them than the factory unit; then you should upgrade speakers.
