View Full Version : Automatics and 2nd cam
So you have to shift quickly to stay in the second cam....
Automatics shift quick, do they stay on 2nd cam or only
6 speeds enjoy that privilege? Is it that different to drive
a stick Celi? Im curious to the point of thinking about
buying a MT from wreck and converting

Its impossible to stay in 2nd cam in an auto. the best you can do is drop to 5k.

actually......if u put the automatic into sportshift mode you can shift @ 8200 which will land you on 5500rpm's......
unless u raise the revlimiter to 8200+ then i dont think there is any way u can stay in 'LIFT' mode.
i know coz before my 6SPD I had an auto.....
not the same mate.....the stick is the way to truly drive the celica the way it was built to be driven....

maybe it's different out of the US, but here, the GTS Automatics have 7800rpm rev limiters, just like the 2002 GTS 6-speeds...
and with the 4-speed gearing, that means at best a 5000rpm drop after 1->2

I land at around 5.5K........
My revs go all the way up to 8,200, then i feel the fuel cut off
Havent paid attention where I land. I guess that chances of landing 5.5 are higher with an exhaust or CAI right?
