I just got a 2001 GT auto handed down to me from my dad, and something about this car has really struck me as odd.

It's the functional hood scoop that goes to ... nothing. Does it actually serve a real purpose?

More importantly - Has anyone fed the air from the hood scoop into an airbox to feed the engine? To me it looks like an obvious RAM/CAI access point.

I know that I can't be the first person to think of this, so why hasn't it been done? I've searched around this site and lots of othe sites that would have this sort of thing, but nobody is doing this.

What am I missing here?

The hood scoop sends air down to cool the exhaust manifold. Although this doesn't do much good if you add a strut-tower bar. :D

that's why you have a metal shield around ur exhaust system....its a cooling mechanism....may not do much, but hey at least u can say its functional.... :chuckles:

It makes the car look faster......lol

It probably also has a small, functional, aerodynamic effect in reducing the drag coefficient.

It helps make the hood jump at highway speed.

actually, I am totally convinced that it is designed to cool turbochargers. Its pointed right where a turbo should be.

Actualy a turbo would hang off towards the passenger side...and is water/oil cooled.
It probably could keep the exhaust manifold from getting red hot however.
