Found out why my car is running 15.1's @90-91mph yesturday. Read the engine codes and aparently the vvt-i system is malfunctioning and is stuck on. Maybe oil seepage has got it stuck, im going to havta take it apart and figure it out, or just leave it the way it is and run the sick times while i can.

i dont get it...isn't it always on...cuz its contiunous variable valve timing....and if there is a switch....how can we go about turning it on or off...it would be good to have this if were gonna be going to the track...and turn it off when coming home???

vvt-i is always on on both gt and gts, it also gives you better gas milege

You = full of it.

Variable Valve Timing is continuous, you do not just turn it on or off.

No, my mechanic said there is a some sort of hydrolic piece or fork that flips over at a certain rpm, that piece is stuck and he thinks that it is giving the car some extra power allowing it to run the 15.1@90, the emissions system is running closed circuit as well. The car is a VVT-I gt that i realize is only suppose to have 140hp at the flywheel, i know it does not have lift, im not that ****ing stupid, and i know that it ran a 15.1 at atco bc i ran it. Slip is posted. What I AM ignorent of is not understanding exactly how vvt-i works which i am working on learning more about. The time the car ran is not BULL****. Nore is my driving skill. :bs:

Sorry I just had to write that...

But honestly your mechanic must think it works just like a honda.

Probably the VVT oil control valve.

i think the idea is that the VVTI is always at the most aggressive (advanced setting). while it would probably get crap gas milage and might be harmful to your car (if it doesn't adjust maps for knock?) i suppose it might get you a little more performance. Then again it seems if driven right, your car is going to be at the most aggressive map level of VVTI at the track anyways as long as your foot is floored (unless full VVTI doesn't take effect until after a certain rpm, say 3500, then perhaps a little performance on launch would be lost).

just my uneducated guess.

Maybe its your vvti valve or another sensor maulfunction, replace them?

Whats the code anyways??? If you dont mind me asking, watch that happen to me now some day for being such a d!ck...

maybe your car is fine and your mechanic is broke
(an easy highly profitable fix for him if everything works)

TIP: see a new mechanic
