I just bought this for my 17yr old son as a first car for him.
He's already wanting to make some changes. Need advice,
but be nice. :newbie:

Sell it :gap:
omg, perfect Anton. Very encouraging.

Looks like he already has rims. I'd be very grateful and excited to receive this as my first car. Slap on an AEM Cold Air Intake, exhaust and an S2K antenna for starters.

And add some springs to.

I'm saving the kid some pain and suffering. All the kids at school will laugh at him and tell him he drives a chick's car. :chuckles:

Gee thanks redlinee46s3. But why should I sell it?
I got a great deal. And besides, it's my son's first
car. Now he can build it up the way he wants.
Isn't that the idea?

:chuckles: Unfortunately, the rims don't match. So that's obviously the first
thing we're going to focus on. Ironic you mention the S2K antenna
because this car didn't even come with one. Thanks for the advice.

I'm only kidding. Shouldn't your son be the one doing the research on what he wants to go on the car though?

My suggestions are;
Eibach pro kit, tein s-tech, or trd springs
S2000 Antenna
TRD standard exhaust
TRD body kit, Kaminari body kit, or Wings West lip kit

Then sell it :gap:

A chick's car? Don't you drive a Celica redline?
So are you trying to tell us something about yourself?

Whenever somebody mentions "chick car" I go berserk. I bury them under Mt. Fuji.

I think a celica is a great first car. Very shnazzy, and, if anything, the compliments you get from chicks far outweigh the chick car remarks from jealous dudes.

Does your son have anything specific that he'd like to do to it?

wow for being a dad you sure talk alot of crap.

anyway nice car for a starter. drop, bodykit, rims are the main things. exhaust intake header are some other things. short throw shifter, etc.

Redlines car is way better than yours, so if your looking for a pissing contest you picked the wrong person.

Well of course, he wants to go all out but remember he is
just a kid and I'm a single mom with not a huge budget. He
is very appreciative, but in the same sense he doesn't
like the way it sits in the back. He's talking about having it
lowered.

Thanks for your comments.. :)

Touche.

Check out the suspension forum for some specific set-ups to give you an idea of where you could go with it.

A pissing contest? OMG! Better than mine? Grow up! I thought this was supposed to be a club. Now I know why I waited so long to post pictures at all. I knew there would
be those like you here. Of course redlines car is better, don't be rediculous. Why would I ask for advice if it was already better?

I really like what you've done to your car Anton.
I'm liking the drop and the wingless look.
But the floating hood mod and custom paint job really MUST go.

Looks like you've been doing your research on weight reduction as well.

relax. just giving you a hard time. whenever somebody says something like 'well lets see your car' usually it is meant as a challenge. I was just mentioning that (s)hes not somebody you want to get into that with. lol.

i think that its great that you bought your son the celica. its a good car, never going to be super fast (which is good for a new driver) but it handles superb and looks great.

If I could do whatever I wanted to my celica(within reason, so im not going the turbo route) Injen Cold Air Intake, TRD Exhaust, Hotshot Header, TWM short shifter, fidanza flywheel, RPS Max Street Clutch, Tien S-tech lowering springs, 17inch black w/polished lip rims, Kamaniri Body Kit, OEM Carbon Fiber Hood with Raised Scoop. Tinted windows, TYC Red Tail lights, S2000 Antenna, Kaminari Carbon fiber spoiler, Carbon Fibered dash, pillars and privacy lid. JDM TRD Steering wheel, Rear Disk brake conversion, TRD guages. But then again, after all that I could have bought myself a better car that would be at the same or better performance level.

theres a list of ideas.. have your son check them out. call around for prices, check ebay, etc.

He's met me, I sold my lights to him, which I regret doing since I'm looking to purchase the same ones now.

haha oh ok. Yea, i mistook Hckyryan25 for a guy because of the Ryan in the name, but Ive met Anton, kinda, when I bought his TYCs. I was just added the (s) because of Anton talking about himself being a chick for driving the Celica.

I'm one of those people that change my mind every day. I'll be going back and forth about selling it until summer time.

thats how I was with my red tacoma.. finally i bit the bullet and sold it... now i am regretting it though. I dont have money to build up my celica. and I am in a small 400 person town where there are no jobs available. So now im just stuck driving a boring stock car.

sorry to the original poster for getting so far off-topic.. just waiting for some responses from you to get this rolling again.

i hope he will enjoy the car! you can start off with.....very cheap mods:
s2k antenna, redded out tail lights, clear side markers.

next up would be a drop, intake, rims, exhaust.

Awesome car for a first car, many of us had to live with junkers for first cars, i would recommend lowering springs, a different style wheels, and maybe a trd style kit, then of course you can always do the intake and exhaust at any time. Most of these parts can be picked up very reasonable right here on this forum in the parts for sale section, so check it out and good luck

It's great as a 1st car.... but remember the likelihood of teenage "accidents".... maybe hold off on the body kits till later;)

As some have suggested... engine performance stuff - intake... exhaust.....some suspension work - sways... tower bar(s)...lowering springs... shocks.... some interior stuff - gauges... stereo.... short shifter ...... exterior - tails... clear corners...hood scoop and later go for header... clutch...body kit ... cf hood...etc.

Maybe tie some goals to them?... like aceing a math test - short shifter.... or a 'B' or better in science - tower bar.....etc. or match $$ for what he contributes.....

Nice Mom!....so thoughtful of you to seek out this forum... welcome aboard....I hope he appreciates all you do for him.

And remember, this isnt a cheap hobby. each of the SMALL mods are gonna cost about 100 or more. big stuff like body kit, rims, tires and such are gonna cost thousands. its really easy to spend thousands of dollars in this, so if money is tight, it may not be the best thing to start promising your son. I think it is really cool that you are getting involved, because my grandma(who is the legal owner of my celica) complains that I spend too much time worrying about the car. Im 19 btw and a freshman in College. Also, let your son pick the parts, and install them himself if he can. Its a great thing to learn, a great way to keep him interested in something which will deter him from drugs and stuff. Also, let him get a job and save for his own parts so he will have more respect for the car. Plus, while its cool to have a great car, people look down on you as a tuner if you are getting the parts from your parents. I get a hard time from people when they learn that I never paid for any of my trucks or cars. Just paid for the parts on them.

One thing that I think everybody is forgetting about is that they live in CALIFORNIA therefore be carefull of the modifications planned for the engine due to the state's smog laws, do your research first!!!! For example someone suggested a cold air intake, you will not pass smog inspection with it. I belive that the majority of the people here from California will run CAI all year and then swap back to the stock one for passing smog.
