Hey guys...

Well since I decided to keep the Celica I also decided that this transmision has got to go! I want to trade it for a manual. Now for me the question is should I get the GTS or the GT??.. Here are some reasons on why I'm torn....

* I've never in my life driven a stick.. so misshifting is kind of a concern in the 6 speed but I do have 2 experienced drivers who could teach me. But the GT is easier to drive..

* That turbo is gonna be out for the GT soon. West Covina rules!!.. it wouldn't happen right away but it will eventually find it's way under my hood. :D As far as the Blitz SC for the GTS... too much $$. It's not for me. Even my car is an auto.. I'm gonna miss lift.. lol

So as you guys can see I'm pretty torn. Right now my car is slower both of the manuals so either one is an upgrade. I know it's ultimately up to me but I was wondering what you guys would get if you were me. As far as money goes... I'll be patient for whichever model I decide to go for. If I have to put up with the auto for a couple more months, then so be it.

thanks...

Wel, if you definately are doing the turbo, then the GT is the obvious choice, insurance will be a little cheaper too, as will the car.

If I had to do it over again, I'd choose a GT. The main reason is that the GT falls into a lower category in solo 2 than the GT-S, but has the same suspension and weighs a little less. Sure it can't pull at the high end like the GT-S, but it would still be very quick on a tight track. I'd upgrade the brakes to be equivalent to GT-S stock, because the car just wouldn't be the same without the amazing brakes.

I wouldn't have gotten either one. Would have bought a used Eclipse GSX or waited for the WRX. Nothing better than a car that already comes with a turbo!

Yeah I agree. I don't know why but my parents INSIST I keep the car but seem cool with me switching transmisions. Go figure... esp. since I bought the car. Plus I'm happy with it. I just made a mistake on the transmisions. I'll be getting an older Eclipse in the next year or so as a project car anyways.

i dont think it matters whether u have a 6spd or 5 spd if u are worrying about misshift issues...

I'd tend to agree but I know that some people just don't race as much as others. Auto's are great for commuting in heavy city areas....and also being consistent with 1/4 times.

My wife used to drive an auto, but now that's she's learned to drive stick...she said she'll never go back. And she's still scared sh@tless when she drives the REX.

As for the GT-GT-S debate. I love my GT-S, it might not be as readily turbo-charged, but it'll take a nice shot of N20 as good as any other car. Not to mention it's just nice to have that awesome baseline of power UNTIL I can get something better than the juice.

I think in my situation, having a GT-S compliments Nitrous even more than a GT, cuz when you don't have the juice on, you've still got a fast ass car...without all the CONSTANT (read it again, I said constant) strain on your engine that a S/C will do or the maintenance assosciated with a Custom T/C.

It'll do for now..heh.

Your reason is one of the reasons I'd like to stick with the GT-S. It has speed all the time. I really wish I could drive stick cause I'd like to take a GT on a test drive and see it's everyday normal driving. They say it's faster than a auto GT-S so I assume to expect a faster ride. Although N20 wouldn't be for me, not having lift is really sticking in my head.

On the favor of getting a GT, so this turbo kit from WC is a FOR SURE thing right? Or as for sure as it can get. I saw the gains on their site and they're very impressive. Sorry if these are dumb questions but I never really looked into that turbo cause I have a GTS but when is expected release date? It really is good for everyday driving? And finally... it's a complete kit right? Everything else can stay stock? It won't be in my case but thats not the point. lol..

6spd 00 or 01 GTS.. with out a doubt in mind.. because no matter how much cheaper the GT is, or the insurance or anything.. there is no other feeling to explain lift.. its that good :)

Ah..you know you miss your Celi, sometimes, Larry. :)

Of course, your GS-T will stomp the sh@t outta it now..heheh.

I'd go with a WRX, RSX, or save my pennies for a used Supra Turbo. Hindsight is 20/20, and looking back on it, I'd go with a car that companies are dying to make performance parts for. Cars that can be modded like crazy just plain rule.

learning how to drive stick is not hard at all.. just go out and buy a 200 dollar pos and practice on it for a few days and you'll be fine..

Yeah seriously. In the auto I can really feel it first and second gear especially now with the intake. I can only imagine keeping it going for 6 gears *drooling* lol..

I think I'm just gonna save and get me a 6 speeder..

As for learning to drive stick... I wish my uncle kept his Saab. It was stick. Oh well, even if I have to rent like an Escort or something thats stick then thats cool too. I just want to go into the dealership knowing how to drive it.

When I first installed my Intake, I use to get a CEL every once in a while, and it will prevent me from going into LIFT - making my car = a 6sp GT. I usually pull over right away to reset my ECU, even in the pouring rain.

Having no Lift is like feeling disabled. I can't stand it.

Plus the extra $2000 is worth the 6speed, Extra 40hp, Leather and Better Brakes. Its a bargain.

I'd definitely go with a 6spd if I could do it all over again.

Hmm.. Thats what I keep hearing. For the trade in plus cover the loss is about $2000. Is that roughly right? If so... I should see my 6 speed by mid July, early August.

I have driven a Tein equiped RSX, with Volks and Azenis and I would still buy a celica GT (autocrosser).

The RSX has an awesome motor(silky smooth) but I don't like how it handled compared to the celica. Don't get me wrong, the RSX handled well, its just that the bar is still higher, oh yea, and my brakes are much better, even with drums.

The GT is a better car for autox, plain and simple. The low to mid range torque advantage it has over the GTS is huge. Most of your braking is done by the front anyway, so no real loss there, and the 5 speed is better for a new stick driver. Much more tolerant of mistakes than a tighter 6 spd.

That said, I still would have bought a GT-S.
Or waited 6 months for the WRX. Right after my mains started making noise on the old SE-R, and I traded it in on the Celica, the WRX was announced, and I kicked myself. Twice. Then the new SE-R! And I was livid.

But alls well, and all that. I love my car.....

The "new" SE-R (even the SpecV) cannot come close to compeating with the 91-93 SE-R

I get a GT-S right off the bat, if I want forced induction and it works better on a GT I am willing to buy a GT engine and swap it out keeping the 6 speed tranny, disc breaks on all 4, etc...
Atleast I would have some fun driving for this past 3 years I had my car...

Yeah. I've decided to stick with the GT-S. I hope I get enough in the trade in cause other wise it's going to take all summer to save for the difference. I can't have my monthlys go up any more esp. with college. I hope to throw the dealer and tell them that I'm the one doing them the favor cause if you think about it, the auto is kind of rare.. lol. But my car is in top notch condition with only 19,400 miles. So I better get a deal.

I know people here have switched transmisions. How did the deal go??

Thanks
