Running Castrol GTX 5-30 in my MK2 celica/supra...not that that helps you in any way...but it's recommended by 4 out of 3 doctors. Huh...well this is the first time I've posted in almost a year ...ouch.

Mobil synthetic 15W-30 recomended for high revving high-tech motors and mobil synthetic transmission fluid. Been using full synthetic @5000 miles and the car has 21K and I change it every 5K. Synthetic will give you an extra 10hp:D

I use Mobil 1 (5w30)
Unless it's very cold I wouldn't use any different viscosity. So if you live up north, go w/ 10w30 in winters.

I wouldn't bother with the 0W-30 unless you live in a place that gets below 0 deg F. If not, the 5W-30 should get you through the whole year anywhere in the lower 48 states.

Is it true that it is too hard to get at your oil filter etc to change your oil... I heard it has a cover or something... that way Toyota has to do it????

its not hard i think there are like two clips or screws that hold up the shield before you get to your filter!!!

Toyota motor only uses 5w30... it's the best for the motor
I personally use Mobil 1 5w30 it is the best oil in the market, the engine runs quiet and smoothly...

I use Moble 1 Full synthetic 5W30.... The dealer recommends 5W30 for the celica. I might try Royal Purple soon to see if there is any difference.

i have Mobil 1 0w30...don't really need it in NY, but it warms up just a bit faster, and in case i get water in my engine again or something, wouldn't 0w30 be a bit more safe? my mechanic said it was good i had such a light weight oil in there last time i got water in there, but maybe 5w30 is light enough too. i'm thinking the heavier oils seperate from the water more?

The bad thing about using 0W-30 if it's not really cold outside is that the oil is too thin to adhere to your engine parts well when the engine sits overnight. Yes, the 0 weight oil will get moving faster when the engine starts, but you want a coating to remain on the cylinder walls and pistons when you're engine is not running. The 5 weight will stay better than 0, but will also start moving faster than the 10 weight oil. Like I said, unless you're at around 0 deg F, you should stick with the 5W-30. If you are in the extreme cold, only go with the 0W-30 for the part of the year when it's that cold.

I'm surprised that almost everyone is using Mobil 1. Well, I'm using it too. However I'm considering switching to either Redline or Kendall(very very good). Anyone is using Agip or ELF?

Synthetic oils conststently outperform mineral based oils in just about every test that I've seen. Besides Mobil1 being the most recognized, it was also one of the first synthetics available, and usually can be purchased many places for less than $4 a quart.
