Did a search but it didn't turn anything up as far as what each sway bar set actually weighs (we all know Hotchkis is lighter, but that's about it).
Anyway I got my Hotchkis STREET sway bars in today and my TRD sway bars are still hanging around for the moment.
**The bushings for each set were NOT included in the weights, only the bars themselves were weighed.**
TRD front sway bar: 9 lbs
TRD rear sway bar: 8 lbs
Hotchkis front sway bar: 5 lbs
Hotchkis rear sway bar: 4 lbs
TRD total: 17 lbs
Hotchkis total: 9 lbs
Just a headsup because I havn't seen it posted before

how much does the stock weigh?

I'm not sure..I wish I knew. I'll find out when the install goes down if no one chimes in before then.
If I had to assume things, then I'd guess they were probably a little lighter than the TRD sways and still heavier than the Hotchkis sways. That's just a guess, though...I know the stock sways are still solid like the TRD sways and not hollow like the Hotchkis set.

Caleb...how much does the Hotchkis front Competition weigh? I just picked it up yesterday and am saving up for the rear (Competition) as well. Thanks.

Omar, the front is the same in both the street and the competition--only the rear changes. I'm not sure how much the rear weighs for the competition vesion, but I would ASSUME it would be a little heavier (a pound or so maybe) but still less than any of the other sway bar sets out there.

Yeah, I didn't know how much it would be before I weight them, but just from carrying them before the TRD sways were much heavier feeling.
To some it's only 8 pounds of sprung weight, though, so it's not a huge deal. Personally I'll take whatever I can get, though. Plus it's not like your giving up on performance because the Hotchkis bars perform very well. The only thing you're giving up with using the Hotchkis bars is a few pounds of weight. Definately worth it, IMHO.

Trd bars adjust in the rear and dont break.
Hotchkis bars adjust in the front and have been known to break (although they do replace them)

This is true. I've never heard of a TRD bar breaking but I have heard of a few cases of the Hotchkis bars breaking.
However, I don't auto-x, much less run road race courses so I presume I'll be more than fine for daily driving on the road and occasional track use. At least that's the plan :) .

I Auto-x and the TRD bars did very well for me :)
My fiance has Hotchicks :chuckles: (I have to say that) Sways on her car and they've been good....she likes them.
All of those bars broke on street cars....just an FYI.

I did notice that they are shaped differently and I'm pretty sure have different mounting points because both Hotchkis bars are also "shorter" (when you stand them up end-to-end) than their TRD counterparts.
That may not mean anything and it may just be the fact that they are hollow that makes them break more easily from being less rigid. Just an observation.

Thanks alot Caleb. Yeah I was kind of surprised as well to notice the weight difference in the bars but still that does not matter to me as I am aiming for show.
I dropped my car off at my Uncle's shop today with everything so hopefully he can get started on it and I'll help him finish it up once I get off of work in 3 hours. I'm dying to see what improvement minimal or major there is with this bar(in stiff setting).
ElCelicaGTS - thanks alot, I appreciate it.

The old Hotchkis rear bars used to break because they were made up of more than one piece, and the welds used to break. They improved on the design a few years ago, using only one piece. So, if you get a Hotchkis sway set, just check for welds and if the bar's clean, you're good.

Doesn't the front TRD bar rub?

Good to know, thanks for the headsup.
