I am having a cd changer put in my 00 tomorrow. I originally wanted it in the glove box, but I don't think it will fit. I don't want it mounted to the back of a seat because I plan to fold the seats down for storage on occasion. Any other ideas for an out-of-the-way place to mount it? Thanks!

Thank you, thats very helpful. I'm sure that I wouldn't have come up with that on my own. I'm looking for a little more specific help. I have played with it to see where it fits, and I can only come up with about three possibilities:

the back seat in the footwell against the base of the seat which obviously takes up some much needed foot space;

the trunk just under the latch against the back wall;

against the back of the back seat which may or may not work if I intend to be able to fold the seats down. I don't really like the option of putting it against the back of the back seat because it messes up the flat storage area thats there when the seats are folded.

Where has anyone else mounted it? Where in the trunk? Thanks!

If you look at where toyota puts the stock cd changer that might be a good place to put yours. i dont think it interferes with the seats folding down and it wont take up that much space. only problem might be the grocery bags hitting it if you are using that grocery bag hook thing u kno what i mean? well thats where i have mines but toyota put it there, its like in the back right corner closer to the opening.

Do you know where I can find a pic of that position? Thanks!

dunno if this helps, but i mounted my 12cd-changer (in the barchetta though) under the passenger seat. the seats are so low you can't put anything under there anyway.

i taped it with ducttape first to see if it would interfere the seat-sliding mechanism (back and forth) and to check if the seat would press on the changer while someone sitting on the seat.

everything was ok, so i also checked if i could easily reach under there to change the mag. it fitted perfectly :-)

and btw, (women don't read this please): it's always a good excuse bend over and take a sneak-peak under some skirts whilst changing cds ;-)

I'm surprised you were able to get a 12 disc under the seat; I couldn't get my 6 disc under there. Anyway, I had it mounted in the "trunk" on the driver side up under the lip at the top edge of the trunk. It fits great and barely sticks out. I'm very happy with it.

If it's a 6 disc changer you should mount it in the center console compartment between the seats. I am going to pick up one soon and have it custom installed in there.

Mine was too wide and I didn't want to have to cut the little shelf out.

Yeah you are definitely gonna have to do some cutting to fit it in there but who cares? As long as its a really nice job you'll leave it forever. I think it's the perfect spot still within arms reach to switch CDs without having to pull over and get out of the car.

Yeah, but if I'm desparate for a new CD, I still have the player in the head-unit (stock). Besides, the celica is fun, but its gone as soon as I can afford an S2000. I didn't want to tear up a car I'm planning on selling at some point.
