oh man. glad to see that you're ok. i also fell asleep on the road once, drifted into another lane, and woke up with my car scraping the side of the other car.

yeah i had the cruise control on at 55mph. it wasnt auto, it was 5spd. my car hit a telephone pole, spun around a few times and ended up back-end into the woods. i thought i was going to die...horrible. but i have the celica cause of it so...

Sorry to hear about your ordeal. My younger brother fell asleep at the wheel in his '03 Civic (manual) going about 50 MPH, hit another car in oncoming traffic also going about 50 MPH, both cars were totally crushed and they had to cut the doors off of each car to get my brother and the 2 people in the other car out. It's a pretty scary site to look at and I couldn't even imagine actually being in that situation.

you guys all have it really lucky. I went on a road trip with my friends to san diego. I was driving my friends gsr back and i fell asleep on the road. Dont know if you guys have been to sd but on 101, theres some really steep hills going down, guess what, i went down one of those steep hills going down about 200 feet. one of my friends fractued his jaw and neck, other friend had a concussion, i tore my back muscles and got 10 staples in my head. Now im scared out of my life to drive tired or even on a long trip.

If I am driving late at night when I know I will get tired, I first grab a bag of finger foods like popcorn, sunflower seeds, pretzels, etc. I just snack on em constantly while I drive. It keeps the mind from getting bored enough to fall asleep.

Me I fell asleep hit an overpass going about 60 mph. they had to use the Jaws of Life to cut the top of the car off to get me out. auto '84 Accord. fractured right ankle in 3 places, broke upper left arm, broke the bone behind the shinn near the ankle. (I forget what it is called.) and yes coming from a girls house.

the reason i got the celica is
1. a drunk driver hit my car and total it
2. though it was fast

If you guys get tired, just pull over and take a power nap.

Easier said than done. sometimes u think you can make it, sometimes you make sometimes you don't. there have been times when I have pulled over. other times when I didn't....one of the times i didn't i got into a minor fender bender :)

I call people when I'm tired. I have my 3am buddies that keep me awake while I drive. It helps alot. Though if my eyes start fading, I pull over and get a soda if I really need to be home that night.

+1. Once I start doing that head bob action like when you doze off, I get so worried for my life and the others' on the road. After 10-15 min. of sleep in a rest area, paranoia is gone.
as to why I bought my GT-S...
I was saving up to get my first stick shift, a tC, in July '04. Same time Toyota officially announced the Celica would be discontinued. To me, that squashed all those gen8 Celica rumors and realized the gen7 to be its final, ultimate incarnation. Like a schizophrenic, my mind changed in an instant. "Screw the tC, I'm getting the Celica!!" I sold my auto GT, got the last manual GT-S in San Diego, and been :D ever since.
