I like how Audi's look and drive, but their reliability is questionable. As my boss (who has owned several S4's, and A6's) said. They're a great car to lease because you can turn them back in. Or get a really good extended warranty.

They are much much faster now than they ever been. The S4 is Gorgeous and the A4 in my opinion has nicer wheels. Reliability though as mentioned, is been better lately though from what I understand.

I know that the previous models had some electrical problems but I have heard that they have fixed many of the problems with the 06 models.

Always liked them. Miss the sharper shape on the rear hatch from about 2001 though. One of my friends has a 2002 S4 and hasn't had any reliability issues, but he doesn't drive really hard too often, either.

they can handle abuse like any other car. it's when the gremlins come out to play, abuse or not, is the issue

I think extended warranty is a piece of crap. Well at least as far as Honda and Toyota are concerned. Most of the stuff that usually goes bad after the factory 5 years or so is usually not covered. And to even get warranty work, you have to first pay for an inspection, and then the warranty covers repair costs if it is deemed under warranty.

depends on what you want, if a daily driver w/ no modding then buy it and take care of it really well otherwise stay away.

I am not really planning on modding it too much. The only thing I'm going to do is chip the car. I don't race or anything so I think the car should be okay.

Im thinking of making the exact same move. Im also looking into the reliablity issues of audi. So far it seems ok, I dont think there will be any problems. Im planning on modding a bit. Thats the whole reason i want a turbo. So this is probably the road im going unless i find a perfect supra.
they're turds.
My dad had a quattro 2.8 - it had some getup but the handling was really a joke - I thought it was good at the time because I was driving a Passat and an Explorer, so by those standards, it was agile - but after I drove some real cars it was a big bloated tank - still, the torque curve was really really pleasant - great cruiser and comfortable, just not an inspiring drive. No better in the snow than my Passat which was merely FWD. Tires are the most important part.
My sister has a 1.8t - not only is it the slowest turd on the planet, it weighs a million pounds and handles like **** - the 1.8t just doesn't have the juice to propel a car of that size, and yes, you can jack it up with more boost etc . . . . but remember, when you do that your powercurve is DEAD until about 4000 rpm - this is a dinky 1.8L engine we're talking about with a turbo the size of a coke can stock.
I would SERIOUSLY recommend a BMW over an Audi every day of the week. I'd even go with a Pre-2003 Mercedes, as they're incredibly reliable and built like bank vaults. A C230 Kompressor has a nice torque curve and can be boosted up significantly with chip/pulley - not to mention it has decent handling for its soft spring rate (due to the rigidity of the body), and is a TRUE luxury ride - they're a dream on the highway.

Just a couple of tidbits of info...the new A4 is a 2 liter not a 1.8. And its supposedly easily the best performing one yet. Far better than the previous years. Not sayin i dont believe what your sayin but you gotta take into consideration the new model is a different car. Also I have to disagree about Mercedes. They are junk when it comes to quality. Definately not a car to look up to when it comes to reliability.

A) The new motor is a lot nicer, but the new car is about 200 lbs heavier - cancels this out.
B) Notice I suggested a specific era of Mercedes. Around 2004 they started going to ****. From 1999-2003 they were solid as bricks.
