I'm seriously thinking of buying this car. I can't really say that I've seen myself in a car this much since I bought my Celica back in 1999 :)
What are your thoughts of the car?

I love it. The steering wheel is weird and so is the placement of the shifter, but other then that i think its bad ass.

over all, it seems like a good car and a good platform to build off of. Not to mention it is already gaining tremendous aftermarket support.

I love it. Slava and I were drooling over it at the Auto show before we knew what it was. We thought it was a new Acura. The interior is high quality material, and the overall design is very nice. I'd love to have one.

i would buy one if it was under a different car company such as toyota or acura. I would even take it if it was under a different name under honda. Owning a "civic" for some reason doesn't appeal to me or people. You will just be one of the other many "civic" owners. Too many ricers have killed that cars rep. Everytime older people hear about civics, they call them riceburners and such(from real life experience). It's a nice car, just not for me. For the amount of money of that car, mine as well get a rwd car or even get a used s2000.

Yeah i kind of agree. Ricers have destroyed the Civic name. However i believe the SI is still salvagable. Especially the new one.

This is stupid. You do realize Honda owns Acura, right? It's the SAME company, different badge. If it had an Acura badge on it, they'd charge an extra $5000 for it minimum. Not to mention, ANY economy car on the market right now has been ruined by tastless ricers pouring their idiocy out all over the country. It's not exclusive to the civic, look at all the ridiculous celicas around here. More rice than a field in Vietnam...
Public perception doesn't make a nice vehicle... It makes people stupid. The civic is an excellent automobile, and has been for many years. The fact that it's reasonably priced and highly tuneable make it a target for the ricer market. That doesn't make it any less of a car, though.

yes i realize that Acura and Honda are partnership companies. My opinon was that the new civic should of came out with diffferent name for that model. Honda makes nice vehicles regardless so the public would still buy it anyways. And yes there are a lot of riced out celicas and that's why i have sold mine. This was just my opinion on the new civic si.

The new Civic Si is a nice ride. One thing that I like is the Helical LSD. The exterior looks nice, and the seats are pretty nice too. I just don't like the guages on the thing. I've always hated digital guages. The 4 door version looks nice too. IMO.

Oh dude, I drove the new Si on a mock-autox course that Chevy put together (It was the competition for their new Cobalt SS, which I also drove). The handling is really precise and predictable near the limit, with a slight understeer. The shifter is solid and the clutch engages smoothly. Definitely a great buy with a lot of potential.

03-21-2006, 08:20 AM
regardless of make, a solid car is a solid car. I think the New Si has alot of potential. If i was in the market for a new pocket rocket i have to say that would be on my list to check out. If you dont buy something because you are affraid you will be associated with ricers, then you are stupid and trivial. I have a friend with an 03 Si currently pushing 600+ HP and 480lbs to the ground. Is that rice just cause it has an H on the ass end??

It's a nice car, fit and finish of the interior is damn nice, but the steering wheel and part of the center console bug me to no end. Having not driven one, and only having sat in one, I cant comment on it's driving dynamics. It's a reasonable priced sport compact. If I were in the market for a sport compact, personally, I'd go with the Mini Cooper S, but that's just me.
If I were dead set on this kind of car, I would wait until the Civic SI Sedan came out, because I think not ONLY is it more utilitarian, it looks better than the coupe.
Otherwise, you might as well get a used RSX-S - the LSD will be of some benefit, but probably not in regular street driving unless you start pushing lots of power, and if you get to that point you're going to need a new clutch anyways, so you might as well throw all that junk in there at the same time.
Also realize - these cars have been selling for around $28,000, and are sold out until July - and they're slower than your Celica, and don't handle/brake as well.
Another good idea might be a WRX/EVO - you can get an EVO for around $20,000, even under $30,000 new, WRXs are also priced well - and you'll get a lot more torque and better traction, and in the EVO, better handling/braking, plus more room.
Really depends what you want the car to do? Daily driver? Racecar? Showcar?

Not true. I can order one for 20,600 or I could buy one now in a color I don't want for around 21-22k.
The car bone stock is running low 15s at the track, infact I'm pretty sure someone pulled out a 14.7 stock already. The stock dyno was 187whp.
The factory LSD should also make a huge difference not only in performance but in handling. Not to mention the brakes are just as huge as the Celicas.
Now you've got me curious, I wanna find a comparison :)

03-21-2006, 12:06 PM
Ok here is what I found per motor trend.
2000 Celica GT-S
0.89g skidpad
69.1mph slalom
0-60 6.6 seconds
1/4 15.2 @ 93
111 feet 60-0 stop
(numbers from road and track and edmunds)
2006 Honda Civic Si
0.85g skidpad
68.6mph slalom
0-60 6.8 seconds
1/4 15.1 @ 93.8
122.7 feet 60-0 stop

stock dyno is not 187whp larry, where ever you heard that it was bull. Maybe it was on a dynapack.
The Si is cool. But in general the people that own them hate the DBW for racing, downshifting or driving around town. The MAF is a bitch. There is one guy who ran a 14.7 and with an intake. They are running around 15.1-.3 stock at around 92-93mph.
poke around on clubsi - as horrible as that is.
the brakes are as "huge" as a celica but the car is also heavier.

I personally don't like them..... When I see them, I think "that's a nice looking car", then I try to erase that little (DOHC I-VTEC) sticker, and I see an ordanary ugly civic. Yeah it's fast, but if I was about to spend 20k, i'd get a nice used S2000 or something since you mentioned you like those. I personally don't think it's worth spending 20k on something a GT-S looks better and is faster, because we all know that a GT-S is more like a 14.9 sec car with the right driver and not a 15.2.
But in the end it's your car and if it defines "You" then go for it. :)

Yeah. You do have a point there. I guess your best bet would be knowing a friend, or a friend of a friend who has one. Maybe post on a Civic site and meetup with someone in your area.
with $20,000 . . . . . get a used Corvette or Boxster - nobody's riced those cars out.
You can be the first!

If you are having trouble finding one, theres a honda dealership in melbourne florida that has two. its an old people area and they have been there for weeks!
one is nighthawk black pearl
the other is fiji blue.
i guess you could find the number at hondas website, couldnt be more than $500 for shipping.
That dyno still seems out of place to me when there are a few on clubsi that are in the 170's stock.

It is horrid. RSX-S.
what's so horrid about it
It is definitely a great car. No doubt, Carmen. As Brian has said, it has always been. I just personally think the best incarnation of the Civic has passed and every rendition of the new one is horrifically ugly.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I behold that is probably the ugliest car I have ever seen short of a Pontiac Aztec. But I do believe it will be and is a great car. As it has always been.
I prefer the previous gen over any.

The intake market is taking its time because the maf sucks ass. aem's intake is crap and im sure injen didnt want to just release some junk intake just to keep up. With all ive heard about racing the si and the problems affiliated with the drive by wire system in that car im not impressed. Hondata has already announced that they will not have a kpro for it, and the reflash will not fix any of the hesitation from the dbw.
Seems like the 7th gen celica story all over again.
