i live in texas and they passed a new emissions standard today. My car failed. I have an Injen short ram intake and a TRD exhaust right now. ON my form it said that i tripped a fault code P0441: evaporative emission control system incorrect purge flow. does anybody have any idea what that means. please help. I only have 14 days to get it fixed before i have to pay for another test.

Take it to a local shop where you know the guy, and have him pass you.

Can you put your stock exhaust back on for the test and then put the TRD one back on after you pass? This is assuming that the exhaust will halp enough to pass your car. If you sold your stock exhaust, maybe youcan borrow a friends?? Just a thought......

none of my friends kept their stock exhausts. could it be the sealed butterfly valve?

That's not a Texas thing. It's a Harris county thing. Are you sure the intake was hooked up right? The butterfly valve may be part of it, but I would verify your hookup. The Injen intake is Carb legal, so it should pass emissions if everything else on your car is running right and you installed it properly. I would check the installation. There also maybe a problem with your EGR valve. You might want to put the stock airbox back on and try it again. I'm glad I don't live in Harris county.

whoa....that really makes no sense. TRD exhausts are 100% street legal and will pass emissions. My car was a special edtion celica and it came with a TRD exhaust straight from the factory off the lot. Might be your injen short ram, but anyways......why do you have to smog your car? New cars aren't required to be smogged for 5 years from the date of purchase, unless the standard emissions are different there.

The problem is the "evaporative emissions" not the exhaust.

Are you driving around with a CEL? Probably so. O fcourse you will fail the test that way.

The evaporative emissions system has several parts (switching valves, charcoal canister rigged to the gas tank, etc). It just captures gas vapors (in the charcoal) and then pulls air through it and burns the vapors later (when the car is running).

If you did the intake wrong, the switching valves may not be hooked up, or the vacuum hoses could be routed wrong.

I guess this relates to the problem we have with the blitz LM intake. check that post and see.

Its not the emissions part that i failed. I tripped something in my engine to turn my check engine light on. that is an automatic failure. i disconnected my battery this morning and my check engine light turned off. as of now it has not come back on. I am going to take my car back to the test facility tomorrow and see how things work out. wish me luck.
