yes it does. Light weight helps, but having a smaller radius helps the most. Moment of inertia varies as MR^2, so if you double the radius, it would be the same as increasing the mass by 4 times as much. Therefore, lightweight, and a decent radius are important.

It is also important to take into account your road conditions. I went with the enkei RP02 17's cause they weigh about 19.5 lbs, they are a 17 x 8, and they will be strong for PA roads. Lightweight wheels are often very expensive, but what most people dont understand is that you can get the same effect with a lightweight 16 or 15 instead of going with an EXTREMELY lightweight 17.

To give you an idea, take the stock GT wheels for example

15 inches, 17 lbs.

some estimates for the weight you would need to keep the same moment of inertia for 16, 17 , and 18 inch wheels are

16 inch would need to weigh about 15 lbs
17 inch would need to weigh about 13.2 lbs
18 would need to weigh about `11.8 lbs

the only 17's that I know of that are that light are at least 380 a pop. Again though, as long as you keep the weight under anything rediculous, you will be fine, and keep tire weight in mind too if you are goin all out lightweight.

My suggestion is a nice 17 inch rim. Gives you good responsive performance and nice looks.
