Guys,

I liked the standard Yokohama Advans. They were very sticky, noisy as hell and wore out ridiculously quick. The grip was good enough that I could overlook their shortcomings.

I replaced them with Falken Ziex in the same 205/50 size. I have been VERY unimpressed with them. They have lasted longer and are much quieter but have NO GRIP!!! Other people that have driven my car can't believe the lack of grip.

After this, I decided that grip is the No.1 priority for my next tyres. I would like it if they were not too noisy, but I don't care if they wear out quickly because I will replace every 12 months anyway.

At the moment I am considering the following:

Bridgestone Potenza S-03 Pole Position;
Pridgestone Potenza RE730
Pirelli P6000
Toyo Prozes T1-S

Any opinions on which is the best? Are there any others which are better than those above?

BTW I have the stock 16" wheels and don't intend to change them. Also I don't mind paying extra as long as the tyres are good enough.

Thanks,
Matt

no one i know has ever went wrong with the S0-3's whoever gets them absolutly loves them for wet and dry.

if not those i've heard mixed results about the toyo T1-S's. Some people swear by them others hate them, genral opinion i've heard they odn't have quite the treadlife or wet weather capability of the S0-3's but are very comparable in dry weather.

btw the zeix are horrible! i know many many people who have tried to run them and have came out very angry with their decsion, if you want a good value tire go with the kumho 712

If you thought the stock Advans are loud, wait till you get in a car with the RE730's on there. Wow. I have S-03PP's coming for my car.

I'd agree on nixing the RE730s from the list. Not as good in the dry as the stock tires and truly terrible in the wet. And for sure they are the noisiest tires I've ever driven on, they make my snow tires seem quiet. As a good point they wear like rocks, I've got about 12,000 miles on them and they look like new.

I like my RE730s so far, about 7,000 miles. way better in the rain than stock yokos, which hydroplaned constantly. S03's are better, gonna go with them next time.

i'm second, third, forth...etc on S0-3, i've heard a lot of good things about them from various car owners, also michelin pilot sports is the way to go if u have big pockets :) i wouldn't mind running with stock yokos avan 680, suppose to be a good value/performance tires

Get the Toyo Proxes T1-S - I have 27,000 miles on mine (the stock yokos were gone at 18,000) the Proxes are about 50% worn - they still stick like velcro rain or shine, new they were much quieter than the Yokos, but NOW they are getting pretty noisy.

I've had my Toyo Proxes T1-S' for about 2k miles and I like them. I replaced my worn stock Yokos at 12k miles with them. They really improved the on center feel and the high-speed stability. I can tell you that the dry grip is better than the stock a520s, but I haven't pushed them hard enough to tell you how they feel at the limit etc.

When I was ordering my tires 2 months ago, I called up edgeracing and asked them which tires had better dry grip, SO-3s or T1-S'? They told me the SO-3s have better wet, and the T1-S' have better dry.

About the noise, I have no idea. I don't really remember or are what my old yokos sounded like. Sorry. Also, I know your probabaly goingm to saty away from Falkens, but have you looked into Falken Azeins? Many people also seem to like these tires and I hear they are not that expensive compared with the so-3s and toyos.

I have a set of the Falken Azenis on my Celica right now, and let me tell you, these things GRIP! Wet or dry, these things stick to the road. I got them for $80/tire, but there is one downside. They WEAR LIKE CRAZY. I've only had them since January and I think I can only get another two to three months out of them.

I got my T-1s' for $127 a piece for 205/50/16 from edgeracing.com

If I remember correctly the SO-3s were about $138 a tire from Tire Rack.

I am looking for prices for the same size tires as stock for the Toyo T1-S Bridgestone SO3 and the Kuhmos 712V so I can get an idea when I go tire shopping.
