If you need more filtration or better flow out of your oil filter you don't have to spend more money on pricy K&N or Amsoil filters, you just need to know your options.
You can use the same filter the Lexus's use. It's a bigger filter with the Warner ID of PH2835 rather than the regular Celica filter of PH2840.
Here's the 2 filters side by side:

I found a few cross references
Warner PH2835 = ACDelco PF53 = Fram PH4386
The seal on the bigger filter is close enough to the original one, and still fits the Celica mounting plate. The threads are the same on the mounting stud, and it works great we've had one on my old Celica for a few weeks now with no apparent problems.
Enjoy.

i second that statement russ. i work around heavy equimpment and my boss is so cheap he uses the cheapest filters he can. well a couple of months ago it bit him in the ass when one of the filters blew apart and went through the entire hydrualic system. i would never put a fram filter on mine. i always put a wix on, thats what i always have used .

what's wrong/ the difference between these and the normal Toyota filters? People always say taht the Yota filters are good because they have some sort of return catch device or something along those lines. What are they talking about?

Fram's don't include a bypass valve, so under high demand your high revving engine could run a little low on oil because of a backup behind the filter. Also most filters carry anti-drainback valves, Toyota's especially because on some of the 90's Corolla's and Camry's the filter sat with the seal end down, so the oil could drain back into the engine when the car was off. This is probably kinda bad for the filter media, and also because if the oil pump has to fill up the filter everytime you started your engine you'd be wearing down your valvetrain a little sooner because it takes a second to get oil up there when you start up with an empty filter. And there's nothing wrong with the Toyota filter, I just say get the IS300 filter for your Celica, it'll work.
As another bad point for Fram, when you get good at taking filters off, you can actually dent it with your hand when taking those off because the filter housing is so thin walled. The new guys at my work are amazed when they take off their first Fram with the filter jaws because they just crumple under any pressure. It's like taking an empty soda can off the engine block. For being the most popular filter out there, they sure do suck a lot.

i been using the stock toyota filter since new. I can't remember the number right now.... the dealer keeps trying to give me the wrong one though, the one for the GT which is smaller than the one in the gt-s. They said if i bring the car in for an oil change that they will put in the smaller gt filter in because its cheaper and still fits.... that sucks IMO. So i do it myself and put in the one the toyota built it with which is already small to begin with. Is that lexus filter your talking about for the new 2000+ celi's or older models?

The bigger IS300 filter I pictured above isn't for any Celica. If it's going to fit on an older model is for you to find out, I've only been able to test it on a 2001 Celica. I haven't even had a chance to try it on my MR2, but the MR2 guys advise me against it because the filter is right next to the exhaust manifold and having a bigger filter closer to the exhaust probably isn't a good idea. If you want to try it on an older Celica I'd be prepared to make a mess.
And as far as I know the 2000 Celica GT and GT-S use the same oil filter.
