Very nice car. I am trying to get one myself after I am done with the Fiero zz430 conversion.

Might I suggest that you take a professional driving school coarse (as in the ones offered by Skip Barber) and truly learn how to drive it. Don't know your expierance level, but all the power in the world won't win a race if you can't drive.

Now that sounds like a post from a guy who is touchy, or just a wee bit insecure ;). Come on, no big deal...guy posted about trading his Celica for another car. Happens all the time no matter what you own. Doesn't affect how much you enjoy your Celica does it? Life's too short to take serious, or be so bitter about it :).

Ghost I'm not a domestic nazi or anything but from what I do understand about the 550 Maranello and it being your dad's and all, like he would let you drive it, let alone race it by yourself, the 550 runs a weak 12 second 1/4 mile, it's heavy as Fudge and it was not designed to drag race, top end pull yeah it'll probably win, but if you're not a experienced top speed racer you'll die. 1/4 mile the vette will kill whatever you own. The mods chris listed will yield him about 600hp, if not a little more, with a smaller pulley and some 4.56 rear end gears he'll be in the 10's. Also, the Lotus and the Ferrari are super cars, you wouldn't want to get embarrassed in a Ferrari with your hot chick sitting shotty. I own Cobra, but yet I respect LS1's, because I know what they can do.

these are the guys who need to be shot - yes shot.... "Your car sucks because it can't be driven in the snow!" When the first half of the pic loaded and all I could see was the hood and the back window I thought it was a Viper and was really excited.........then the rest loaded. Great sports car, definately not just sporty like the Celica. Thing about Vettes though is they are really common place now. I've seen probably more Vettes then Cobras, Vipers, and even Supras in my life, and for me the wow factor has kinda gone away. I still think they are nice cars, but when I see one its more a nod of appreciation that comes out of me, not a gasp like when I was younger. Lets just say that if I see a Viper on the other side of the freeway, I will take the next exit and catch up to it just to gawk at it. If I see a Vette fly past me right when I'm about to get off the freeway, I'll still take the exit :(

im not tryi8n to flame or nothin opn what u said..its true..but for your information...my dad drives his maranello all the time..and he doesnt hesitate to let me drive it becasue i am a better driver thwan him....i have gotten the maranello into the very low 12's very easitly....the car is not that heavy since it is almost entirely made of carbon fiber....about me driving at very high speeds .. i am a good driver at high speeds...i have toped out cars at well over 180 mph...which is crazy becasue ive done it on regulaer highways...i used to race in touring car racing for mazda when i used to go to college in indianapolis..now that i go to college in nj where i live at i had to give up the racing but the pint is that u cannot juudge how i drive at high speeds....i've beaten cars with 4 times the hp as me in many situatins...the lotus is not even close to stock...it is pushing well into the 400hp range and is lighter than the vette....even though these cars are supercars the vette is still up there in handleing and hp and many other thingfs...the vete has way more feratures than the lotus and the ferrari put together... remmeber "damn right its limited...no back seat..no cup holders..just a shiny d*ck with 2 chairs in it" and thats a true statement..lol....not tryjn to be a d*ck aboiut this..just tryin to state a point...

all you need is civic hatch back you can get a 92 bodystyle type for about 1-2k and then get a b16 or b18 everything after that is just decideing if turbo or supercharger and how fast you want to get

How is low 12s for a 250K car weak? how many people do you know that buy a 250K car to race it? I think its actually quite decent. There arnt many stock cars sold that run faster than a 12 second 1/4. Im thinking the Ferrari is a whole lot more luxurious than the vette on top of being top quality fit and finish, compared to the seemingly forgotten interior of most american muscle cars.

thank you...the ferrari is stock...that vette has over 5000 done to it to gewt it like that...also the ferrari will eat up that vette on raod caorse also...quarter mile driving doesnt mean jack sh!t ...if he knows how to drive it that car can get 11's..im not bragging but i have eaten up cars that should have aten me alive in the ferrari because of how they drive and hoiw i drive..there is a guy that i saw somewhere that had a twin trubo testarossa that i beat pretty badly...i mean that testarossa is fast 0-60 close to 3 secs flat...idk man i guess we got different views...if i dumped as much money inot the ferari like that guy did with the vette..i would be unbeatablke by any steet legal car ..well notr unbeatable..but close...and the ferari is far from a all out just for performance car..there is a reasont hat the car is 250K....its worht every penny and then some...i advise you to take any advantge that u cna get to just maybe sit in one...drive one...u will sh!t yourself...

Ghost, eat up the vette in a road course? I hardly think so, the vette is the creme de la creme of american muscle/sports cars, I just don't understand why everyone thinks that vettes are american no handling muscle cars, they're faster than mkIV supras, faster than stangs, and faster than all the F bodies, that's just the C5, I don't even want to talk about the Z06, the Z06 is in exotic territory with it's low 12 second trap in the 1/4 mile. Expensive don't mean better, your ferrari may turn heads, but against a properly driven z06, it'll be a drivers race. Against chrisquik's modded vette, if properly driven, you'll lose, even in your 250K car, Ferrari's "can lose". Face reality guys, the vette can handle as well if not better than a ferrari.

you dont buy a ferrari to be fast.

ferraris do something entirely different. you can sit and cruise at 160 mph in the ferrari. The technology in the engine is simply amazing. the new ferraris incorporate not continuously variable valve timing, but CONTINUOUSLY VARIABLE CAMS!

since you all drive celicas you obviously bought it because you like technology (okay maybe only me) for the sake of technology.

the ferrari is like that X10000

the Vette may make more horsepower, but nothing will ever beat the feeling you get from driving one or riding in one.

it is, quite simply, out of this world.

i have driven a z06 and i must say, however, they are the most beautiful car you can buy for the money.

Vettes are great cars, best bang for the buck in their price range.

Congrats on the Vette--hope you have some fun with it.

I went to an SCCA Solo 2 event last summer to watch what the event was about. Really interesting mix of cars there, including a local Corvette club. I was curious to watch how they did.

Apparently, they weren't quite sure what to do with all that rear-wheel power. Virtually every run was a DNF, as they had a lot of trouble keeping the rear wheels behind the front wheels :rofl:

Show me this daily driven Civic. If it doesn't have 28" slicks up front and wheelie bars, I'll be impressed. The weight transfer is what kills these FWD cars.

10k Mustang

Pick up an early 80s beater... only worry about it being stable and not requiring major work more than a couple hundred dollars. Swap in a ford motorsports sportsman block with compression setup for a blower. Doing all work yourself this will run around $6-7k. Definatly enough power to hit the mark you want and stable.... (this is assuming you do all your workinstall it)

Dump $1-2k into the suspension and $2k into misc. items such as roll cage, wheels and tires, tach, seat, etc....

May break the 10k budget.. may not.... depends on where you get your parts - if you decide to hand build your engine... and depends on how pretty you want your car in the end.\


*note.... tranny stability isn't taken into account here... it wasn't said the car had to run 8seconds more than once :) - which is why I don't find anybody's claim that a car can hit 8s under 10k VERY valid. NO car running under 10s "stable" and "consistant" will be cheap... although you can build a beefy auto tranny and run it and be golden for a bit more cash in a stang.... for under $15k - lots of know-how.. and lots of time will net you a ****ing fast car under 10s guaranteed... less than that is up to you

for myself.. if i was making a car in those numbers - don't care if its an import or not.. i would not sit in the thing if it cost "only" $10k.... $15k.. probably even $20k to build. 10 seconds is one thing.. 8 seconds requires a VERY stable car, stable engine, stable tranny... way too many factors to trust and I dont know of any import or domestic that I would say can run 8s for that kind of money and still be 'safe' - but yes a mustang can do it :D

if you want safe, you will have to run all teh safety equipment, and chasis upgrades, etc. but the power ability is there and yes, itll go down teh 1320 to run that 8..

the 5.0 can also run 9's n/a(Rock Hosea)
