Hey right now im in the process of buying a truck and have found a couple, one being a 93 lowered ranger with a 4.0 liter v6 swapped into it, and the other being a 89 chevy s10 with a 350 v8 engine swapped into it. Both are in great shape, and i just need a truck for haulin my dirtbikes around and bark and rocks and such, but i dont want some slow grandpa truck and both of these fit in my price range of about 6 grand and under. If you had the choice between the two which one would you get. I will add pics of both, and on the s10, it has this thing on it that may be a slap stick cause the truck has no clutch pedal but looks to have some sort of manual shifter that ive never seen before being 17 years old. I can drive both a manuel and auto, and the ranger is a manuel.

The top 2 pics are of the s10 and the rest of the ranger, i was sort of leaning towards the s10, but dont know what kind of shifter that is or how to operate it.

i believe that is a hurst v-matic shifter on the s10. It is for automatic transmissions. Comes down to which one you like better.

here is a pic of the hurst v-matic: http://www.jegs.com/images/photos/500/530/530-383-8520.jpg

so how does one work? is it just like any auto tranny where have park drive reverse and such on it, or do you shift into the gear like a manuel?

Depends on how the tranny is set up. Some work both ways, some are manual shift only, but they're still autos in the end (P up front, low gear or D in the back). Think of it as an old school version of the GT-S' Sport Shift. ;) Then again, they have the torque to help level the playing field vs true manuals.

the s-10 looks better imo (except for the color), and with a v8, might be better for haulin stuff. don't really care for the ranger.

buy the s10. I've never ridden in, or driven, a Ranger that didn't suck.

What kind of setup is the 350 V8....carb or efi?

Buying a vehicle with an engine swap can result in inheriting a lot of problems. But given the choice on which vehicle I would dirve I would choose the S10. The small block chevy has a huge aftermarket of reasonably priced parts.

im trying to look at the pics, but they wont show up.

from my experience, i have known a lot of people who have done swaps in their trucks. a 350 into a 80's s10 is one of the easiest swaps to do, and has a really high success rate. that and chevy trucks are built really solid, especially back then.

ford rangers are POS's, no matter what, they just suck. its like the kia of minitrucks. id rather have an old dsm truck instead.
