Anyone have any personal experience with either the new Rav 4 or FJ Cruiser.
Im thinking its time to get a new truck, my Highlander is getting up in miles and Im about sick of its problems.
I guess thats what I get for buying used, anyway any info would be great. Im kinda leaning towards the FJ Cruiser, its pretty nice.

The FJ looks better than the Rav4 and is probably an overall better vehicle just because it's newer. Keep in mind that it's in its first model year, so there may be kaizens in following years, but reliability shouldn't be an issue. But you should do a test drive.
Wait for the redesign of the Tundra. It'll be bigger and outclass the current model.
FJ is more offroad capable and meant for such use
don't buy it unless you're going offroad, or you'll be a big poser like the Hummer people.
The Rav 4 is more of a people mover, but its still good in the snow/mud.
Neither will compare to your highlander, which is basically a lifted Camry - so it rides like a car. They're both trucks.

Its for the wife, she wants a new SUV or I would be all over the new Tundra.

Good point. She dosn't go off road on purpose just by mistake:chuckles:

True but they are so close in price.

Brake problems. I just changed the rotors and pads for the second time and it still has a nasty vibration when braking. Plus my wife gets a different car every 1-4yrs. She has car issues:)

how are they close in price, my mother just bought her Limited 4cyl 2wd rav4 LOADED for about 22ish. all the FJs in my area are going 10,000 more than that.
oh word of advice if you get the rav4... dont be expecting those "30mpg"

Well the one they have at the dealership by me is loaded, has the locking rear diff and all the goodies for 28,000. If we get a rav4 it has to be 4wd so its going to cost alittle more, say 24,000.
Don't see how that's 10 grand but I guess it has to due with area to. Thanks for the advice, the wifey likes the rav4 better anyway.
MSRP for both is close anyway:)

V6 awd rav4 is what we are looking at compared to the FJ. Price is close.

My wife's 05 Rav4 gets 30mpg on her 95% highway commute. FWD. We paid $18,500 for it new at the 04 'Toyota-Thon'. She loves it. So does our lab.
I'm very pleased she went with that over the Element she was hung up on for awhile.

Eh, what?
The Rav4 is like the original car chassis based SUV and still is.

I like the FJ. I sat in one not too long ago, and it's pretty nice. One of the dealers even let me drive it because he was inside all day and wanted to get out for a bit. It's not for everybody though, especially the price. I think it was in the low $30,000's if I recall correctly.

Yeah. Unless you replace all four rotors the brakes will never feel right.

We ended up with this. 2005 SR5 Sequoia with the black package. This thing is huge. I can't believe how well it drives and the space inside. Well worth the money:) Hopefully she doesn't destroy this truck to.

my mother traded in her 05 for an 06 because the dealership had more demand for those body style, but anyway the previous gen got wayyyy better gas milage. i wonder if it has to do with the added weight.
