Also i was wondering what can they run with mods like. Kazuma exhaust, CAI, headers and possibly NO2? I'd appreciate any input as im debating on wheather to buy the auto in the future or should i take the plunge and learn to drive stick shift?

Learn to drive stick, my mom bought my car and it sucks not having the six speed.

if you want to go the speed route AT ALL learn to drive the stick.
I wouldn't buy an auto at all but thats just my .02

My parents bought the car for me but I asked for a manual but I still have to pay for it. For the stock auto gt-s should run just like a stock gt with stick shift I think. Check the link here (http://www.newcelica.org/other/track/index.php)

that's my .02

Well the only two autos produced: 16.614 and 16.889 according to the link HOMEP666 posted. I bought the car for speed and modding and the auto just isn't cutting it. It's almost a full 2 seconds slower than the 6 speed. Personally I can't beleive that Toyota would even release the auto knowing it was that much slower. I'm saving for the difference in trading it in and getting the 6 speed. I've never driven stick but I'll learn... simple as that. I don't like the idea of putting all that $$ in the car and STILL never be as fast as a 6 speed.

i'm not flamming the people that like their autos. If speed really isn't their thing, than looks wise I think it's one of the coolest looking cars out there. So why put up with the constant hassle of shifting? To each his own and that's completely cool. But I don't like the idea of having regrets especially when I have to pay the bill on it. So... if there is a chance to get a 6 speed, I would do it.

I've raced a couple auto gt-s's and won by quite a bit...

I thought about trading my auto gts in for a manual but then I decided it wasn't worth wasting that much money on a car that will never have the potential that a WRX has. So i'm going to keep my auto celica and make it look real good, and one of these days i'm going to get a WRX for speed. Just my .02.

Don't buy the auto GTS. You're going to want to go fast so definitely get the 6spd. Look how many auto GTS guys are wishing they could trade their cars in if that's any indication.

Yeah seriously. Listen to HilfigerCelica. Just learn to drive stick. I really hope I get a deal on my trade in. I get the feeling I'm gonna get screwed and gonna be stuck with paying sooo much more.

Yeah keep us posted. I should be learning from someone I work with in about 2-3 weeks. I guess I'm learning on some very old Volvo... lol. Should be interesting.

Might as well wait till you get the 6spd before you bother learning stick. The celica stick isn't like most other sticks out there, especially if your thinking of learning on a POS. The gates are smaller, the throws are shorter, and the clutch travel is almost non existant. I'd driven stick maybe 2 or 3 times in my life before I got into the celica. In 10 minutes I was driving it like I'd owned the car for years, but I still can't drive my friends VW Jetta manual worth a damn.

Unless you just want to pick up some basic skills, learning stick before you hop into the 6spd celica isn't really necesary.

Yeah deffinetly just getting the basics down. I keep hearing the 6 speed isn't like the others so I hope it doesn't give me problems. So I figure some experience is better than nothing. Even if it isn't gonna be anything like the 6'er.

I had an auto GT. Traded that bad boy in for a 6 speed GTS. I had only driven sticks like 2 or 3 times before but eventually got the hang of it. These guys are right sticks are a million times more fun to drive than autos.

i guess this is kinda off topic but would a manual gt beat an automatic gt-s in a quarter?

i have a gt auto... and i would have totally traded in for a gt 5-spd.... but i borrowed my friends '88 celica gt 5-spd to practice on (for like a month).. its great and fast, but in LA, theres waay too much stopping and going and waiting in traffic.....thats why i'm just gonna keep the money i have now. BUUT.. the 6-spd is cheaper than an AUTO. auto is a luxury option after all, and costs like what? a grand? dont know what take the plunge refers to, but heres my $.02

BEFORE U GO OUT AND TRADE IN FOR A M/T... LEARN HOW TO DRIVE FIRST... yes its fast, yes its fun, but there are some days where i just feel like putting the foot on the gas and going.... too tired to deal with shifting (and yes, i DO know how to drive stick) perhaps u will feel this way, perhaps not. just because others have traded in in the past and felt happy with it, doesnt mean u have to be.

eh, don't listen to 'em....get the stick you'll love it. don't worry about traffic and stop and go driving...once you get used to it, it's second nature and you don't even notice it.....it would be nice if you drove a mt before trading in your car so you can see if you like it, but don't think you have to learn how to shift all smooth and everything before you make the trade, that'll come with time.

oh yeah one more thing...you will be HATING it the first week or two.....especially when you're stuck on an incline and can't get it going with people behind you honking their horn.....happens to everyone....in no time you'll be an expert......if you have lots of problems on inclines there's always the ebrake.
