My uncle car wouldn't start until I scrap off the corrosion of the connector. Is it because of the battery he uses? He is using a duralast battery.

Depends on the corrosion. Typically, it can be from: overfilling w/water, overvoltage, and "gassing" of the cells. Negate the "acid" w/a baking soda & water mixture.
