The GTS engine in my car has always been noisy at idle since day one, after 20000miles it is still the same. Would valve adjustment help or is it just a waste of time? I really hate visiting dealership for any issue, I don't trust them anymore.

Waste of time.

It shouldn't need a valve adjustment ever.

If it has gone out of spec, then you are getting excessive wear to the cam lobes or rocker arms.

From the schematics of VVTL-i heads that I've seen, I don't think adjustment would be needed either. Honda VTEC heads use rocker arms, and they do need to be adjusted every 15k miles or so.

only time you need an adjustment is if something isnt working properly ie a misshift or your just losing power..

Yes, I also have that diesel sound engine on my GTS. I did brought it back to the dealer (freehold NJ) to get it fix. they told me i need a valve adjusment. (this is after i misshift) so they did. then a month after it came back again loud ticking noise. anyone have any idea what is wrong with that ticking noise?
i did comepared it to one GTS owner my boy Riceboykiller(lou) and mine ticks louder.

mine ticks too. i think it's maybe the fuel injectors. i dunno if it's the valves, cuz the car doesn't seem to run unusual other than the noise.

Sorry if my last post wasn't as clear as it should have been. The VVTL-i head design is such that it shouldn't need adjustment. The VTEC rocker arms have bolts on them that need to be tightened and adjusted regularly. Oh well, I'll need to figure out how to do that myself.

How do you get access to that pressroom website? I was looking for that site that had some pretty good press information about the Celica with some pretty good diagrams (especially one of the aerodynamics) is that the site?

Having rocker arms with lash adjusters means they should be adjusted regularly.

Valve clearances on our car are set with precise thickness shims. You measure the lash, then put a metal shim under the lifte that gives jus tthe right amout of lash. It is very laborious. You have to bolt it all together, then measure, then take it all aprt again, then put in the right shims, then bolt it all back up.
Pain to do, but basically the valve lash is now fixed unless there is excessive wear (in whichn case you have other problems).
