Just buy a 3S-GTE head and 3S-GTE kit from KO Racing. They rock.

Try www.alltrac.net for all kinds of cool 3S-GTE related goodies that should work with your car if you do the head conversion.

Contact Chris Kattage at www.enginelogics.com for all the info you need on grafting on that 3S head

If you need a source for the head I will sell my spare for $400

or the cheap route is to get all the stock stuff off an mr2 turbo(exh mani, turbo) , supra green top injectors, some piggy back and an intercooler you should be good for almost 200 whp go to www.mr2oc.com and look for a thread about 5sfte
but boosted 2.0 has a better more reliable option for you listed above. but this will work.
* edit or if it is an option for you the cost of a head swap is probably approaching the cost of a full 3sgte swap. do your research.

Best reasons for teh head swap

1 - instant 2.2L stroker
2 - access to all the viriety of valves, springs and performance cams for the 3S (5S has none)
3 - 3S head flows WAY better to start with

go to www.enginelogics.com and call Chris K and ask him about putting a 3S head on a 5S block

Any time bro,. BTW - if you want to try the 3S head with a stock manifold and turbo for startes I have a used stock turbo and manifold as well. You'll need some kind of enigne management or an ECU swap off an alltrac or MR2 at that point though.

Definitely go sign up over att www.alltrac.net and start using those forums too BTW - WAAAAY more 5th gen and 3S info over there.

We all know that this site is designed for 7th gens, however there's nothing wrong with asking a question from another group because the main goup sometimes is stuck on just 1 method of doing something. It's nice to hear info from other people as well.

And as for th 5sfe turbo, I was going to go this route but I decieded I didn't need all the hassle of a turbo. If your 5s is in low mileage, good condition motor, then turboing it should be fine. Just keep it below 10psi.
Incase you haven't check this site out go to www.celicatech.com and SEARCH for "5sfte". And fore warning, lots of people will right away advise you to "Swap" to a 3sgte. It isn't a bad idea but in reality, a 5sfte is reliable up to 200 whp give and take some. But if you want 250whp with stock internals you'll want a 3sgte. By the way there is also a pretty good turbo kit here www.poweredbytoyota.com . Good luck

Well I don't know how good the turbo is - its got 60,000 miles on it so I guess like $400 for the turbo and manifold and another $400 for the head with the stock cams and all the valves in it. The head is out of a running vehicle and is in good condition, but it has been sitting a while so you may want to lap the valves and replace the valve guide seals and cam seals to make sure you don;t have any oil leaks or consumption.

I think Boosted 2.0 is the only person on this site I've ever seen answer 5th Gen questions :chuckles: Were he not here, I'd say this site would be pretty worthless for 5th Gen info.

Also, there is a forum on here for non-7th Gen cars...

Very cool, I didn't know anybody was doing this. I had heard of a 4A-GE head on the 7A-FE, but never with the S blocks. Aren't the 5S rods weaker than the 3S(GT) rods? Sounds like it'd be fun to destroke a 5S using 3S rods and make one hell of a high reving 2.1ish liter engine.
