View Full Version : Is the Yaris the "new" Celica?

Well the Celica is gone as we all know, however at the auto show they had the Yaris. Is that the new Celica? Why would they drop the Celica? Were there sales numbers low?
Thanks,
Zack

Supposedly the scion "tC" is the new toyotaCelica. This topic has been discussed quite a few times...so use your search button. They dropped the celica because Toyota is not in the avenue for developing sports cars for sale in North America. The celica's sales numbers were very low and that is why they stopped production. Toyota's main market shares are now being invested and returned in hybrid technology. However I believe that Japan will see more "performance" cars from toyota.

The yaris replaces the echo. Has the same engine and center mounted gauges.

:werd:, the echo was outdated and the yaris is replacing it.
the yaris is nothing more than an econobox. it may be customized for performance as it utilizes the same engine found in the scion xA and xB, which there are parts available for, but it is no celica replacement.
it wont be til 2008/2009 that (if we are lucky) a replacement is made.

yes, the yaris is the celica replacement...cause toyota is not in the hp war anymore, so they figure why not use the existing 103 crank hp as the backbone of the next celica...

I propose that someone do a 2zz swap into a yaris. Then it would be 7.5th Gen Celica.

I actually went to the dealership to look at one for my gf, and she got to drive one a freind rented. They are pretty nice, very comparable to the corolla, i would buy one if i were looking for a nice daily driver. They only range from 12k-16k i believe (4dr). And you can even get the lip kit vers. Hopefully my gf will pick one up to replace her junker

i like the "s". it seems pretty worthy for a daily driver. i know the xA's are pretty fun to throw around, and id imagine these are too.

Yaris (or the Toyota Vitz) weighs only 2,371lbs. Pretty light but not that much lighter than a 7th Gen Celica. I was actually hoping for it to be around the 2200lbs for being a hatchback.
The 2ZZ-GE swap seems like a good idea, but space might be a problem. The Vitz looks decent with a body kit and a pair of eyelids to shrink down those nasty looking headlights.

again, this Yaris is fun car to drive. I think it looks great for an econocar. Yoshio Factory has proven that a mildly modified Vitz was able to wipe silvia's out of its rear view mirror on winding roads. The point is, don't be judging it because it looks like a lame scion.
And no, the Yaris isn't a replacement of the Celica and the tC is a sad sad "successor".

I had a Yaris when my 04 Solara was in for some warranty work. It definatley reminds me of the Echo. Not sure if its something that I would buy. Its kinda frustrating that Toyota is dropping all of the coupes that they make- the Celica and the Solara. Not everyone wants the Scion TC...

^^But 80% of this world love driving a Bad handling Bubble Mobiles. I dont see the popularity of the TC slowing down for awhile. :scared: oh well. The Yaris is okay looking just wish it had alil more power, but I cant really give my opinion until i drive/ride in one. I'm kinda liking the C-One Yaris tho

Kami Speed, will be showing the C-ONE Yaris through HIN in Florida; hopefully through the East Coast if everything goes accordingly with C-ONE & Kami Speed.
For C-ONE, Japan; the new Yaris is their new Celica as most of their focus will be on this vehicle, since the Celica market is dying out.

For the record; The Yaris is NOT the replacement for the celica. The TC was introduced to fill "GAP" the celica left. The Yaris has been around for years in Europe and Asia and is not a "New" car. The Yaris was brought over in order to replace the echo. Thats the skinny from Autoweek.com and my bud that's a general manger of Scion, so I'd say my facts are pretty straight. How anyone would compare a Yaris to a Celica, I don't understand. That's like saying the Celica replaced the Supra.

The Yaris IS an Echo replacement improving on some of the issues the original Echo had. It is not a Celica replacement. The Celica was just discontinued due to lack of profit.
"TRD1zz00GT" is correct in saying the Celica Supra used to have one badge in Japan. The Celica Supra is also known as the MK1 or MK2 which is a really old old car by my standards. Here is a site that will give you more info about it if you're curious. For some reason I can see myself driving the crap out of this car on a dirt road. :D
