I don't know yet, but I might decide to let her go. We have been through a lot together, and I don't want to give her up. I just might have to. The Celica takes up too much time and money, and I think it's time to grow up. Can someone please convince me that she is worth keeping?? I don't know what to do.

Sure the numbers can be better, but is it really more fun to drive? I have had a couple of turbo cars and I find the Celica more rewarding to drive than all of them. Something about a nice normally aspirated engine that seems to connect with the driving experience. Don't get me wrong, I like turbo engines; they were great for pissing contests and the like. But at the end of the day, away from the timeslips and the mag racers, the celica offers a great package for what it is.

well is it more fun to drive a 167 whp car with great handling, or a car that can handle a good 300+ whp with affordable aftermarket and also good handling? It's your choice. Bottom line, turbos are fun. Ride in a car with a turbo and you'll know -- you'll never want n/a again..

if your thinking of getting rid of the celica...give it to me...ill take it off your hands....:) ....i dont know anyone that would want to get rid of it...well the celica is something that i dont think i would want to trade in for another car..the ony thing that i would want to do is upgrade it and put mods on it...but i bet if you do get rid of it...later on ..your gonna regret it

I agree that the Celica is fun to drive, but have any of you test drove a WRX. All I have to say is HOLY SH!T!!!! The guy from the dealer went along with me and I got to drive the crap out of it. The guy even said that I could LAUNCH it! If none of you have driven one, and I mean DRIVEN one, you should and I promise you won't be disappointed!!!

really guys, even on my friend automatic '93 Talon TSi the turbo kick feels like 3 times badder than lift. Comes in at a much lower and useable RPM too. Lift feels fast, turbo's hold you back in your seat. Of course, the AWD helped out with that thing too :D

actually I will tell you first hand.. having a turbo is awesome in its own right.. but there is NO feeling like hitting lift at 6k

well since damn near everything on my car has decided to start breaking/falling apart after 30k miles i think i've finally convinced myself into getting a wrx too. now i just have to save for a while. i really love the celica but it's just giving me way too many problems, plus there's always the fact that its gonna be kinda hard to get tons of power/torque out of it for an affordable price.

i was going to say the exact same thing you said to the T. i hit 30k miles today, i am not really attatched to this car like i used to be. i want a WRX. i was up at 1am reading new/old mags....drewling. this just isnt the right car for me. 2 more years....

ha..glad i'm not the only one then. that sucks that some of us have gotten these unlucky celicas (some people in my club have had lots of problems too) but i hope i'll be happier soon with 300 hp and AWD :). (that's gonna take a while though)

ROTFL..

Get a WRX...omigod..lol.

I OWN a WRX. I've LAUNCHED a WRX. Trust me..the WRX has it's fair shair of nagging little things that bug the hell out of you..let's list some:

1. The clutch travel is about a MILE F'ING LONG. It takes forever to engage. If you're used to driving in the Celi, it'll take a few miles everytime you jump in the REX to get used to it again. My Celica's clutch kicks the snot outta the REX.

2. It feels like a boat comparitively, when you're doing about 90 on the highway, and do a quick lane change, it feels like you're all wobbly...not the tight connected to the ground experience you get with a Celica. I should know..I was all over the highway heading up to Seattle today in the REX. It was fun, but not as spirited, and easy to do as my Celi.

3. The thing feels like you're sitting in a VW Beetle. It is NOT laid back, chilling and cruising. It is practically sitting. (seats are comfy, though) :D. You better get some different seats or slam the car down to get a lower stance.

4. The shifter is NOT precise, even with the STi Short-Shifter...it's extremely notchy and to put it into reverse can be a pain sometimes (just like the Celica..lol). It's not exactly a quick process when you combine it with the "I'll only push it in halfway so I can shift fast" clutch travel.

5. The top-end on a stock WRX isn't all that. Comparitively, my GT-S will smoke it on the highway, and all I've got is an intake and an S-AFC. From a roll, it's nothing special. From a dead stop, it'll whoop your ass.

6. This might seem minor, but if you live in Tacoma, not being able to see out your back window SUCKS. There's no damn windshield wiper in the rear, and that really gets old when it's raining cats and dogs. You can't see jack because the rain just sits there on the back pane.

7. The stock rims are ugly as hell, and to get some good ones you might as well add on about 1,000 bucks. They make the car look like a toyota tercel or something. Not to mention, better tires.

8. Gas mileage is CRAP compared to my Celica. I fill up my wifes gas tank probably about 2 times as much as my Celica, and that's not even when I'm getting on the throttle. The turbo eats gas like it's candy. I hit lift everyday (probably every time I get in it, heh), and my gas mileage is awesome in the Celica.

9. No 6-spd = WIDE GEARS. Ugg..it's pretty bad..if you're in second gear going up a hill, you better downshift to 1, cuz you're not going anywhere.

10. Under 3,000 this thing is a dog..heh, and until you get an MBC or EBC, you're not gonna get full boost in every gear, more like 8 or 9 compared to the supposedly stock 14.5.

And there's a few other things..but I'll leave it at that for right now.

I suggest you guys do some more driving in BOTH of the cars before you start thinking that one is better than the other.

The overall stock package in the Celica just can't be beat. It's a driving experience all it's own. The WRX can feel a wee bit too detached, and to feel really comfortable with it, you're gonna have to do some serious modding to get it to the feel that the Celica has stock. As in replace the suspension, rims, tires, shifter, clutch, throwing a few extras in like a MBC, and quite a few other things. Plus once you get all that done, you're gonna have to worry about WORSE gas mileage.

And for you, WRX owners, don't think that I'm dissing the car, the Celica has it's problems, too, and I do plan on modding the WRX into a tight azz 12 sec wonder box on wheels. I do love the power, and the car is tight in alotta aspects.

But after taking a ride in the REX, I'm just as ready to take a ride in my Celi, no regrets, even if I am short of about 30 horses.
And after Monday (n2o installed), I think I'll probably enjoy it doubly so.

When I get into it, and hit the road, it feels like I'm flying, and if I'm going 90 on the highway, it feels smooth as buttah, with easy and quick lane changes, and power easily at your finger tips without having to wait for the turbo lag to end. N/As have good things going for them too.

The Celica is THAT good. Granted, both cars will need some proper tuning to make the ride appropriate for your need, as any ride...it's just that I don't think with a stock to stock comparison, the WRX can compare (besides kicking the snot outta the Celi in the power and off road ability) with the smooth ride of the Celi.

I just kinda find it amusing, alotta people forget what a nice ride they have....

Oh well...

Good sanity check Archangel, your account really hits home that a car's worth isn't all in the spec sheet. After driving almost every production car and owning several, I find that there is always a lot of give and take. Do yourself a favor and actually go drive all of the cars you sit and fantisize trading the celica in for. You may realize that the car is quite different from the impression you originally had. I did that yesterday, test drove a bunch of cars for the hell of it. Drove the WRX; the AWD turbo is great fun, but I felt the same thing that Archangel did; wasn't connected to the car like I am to the celi. Drove the Matrix too, great versitility, but you can easily tell why it is a cheaper car. The door felt like it was going to blow away when I opened it, and the interior felt a couple notches down from the celica. Sitting in it felt like a minivan too. But, if you get to test drive the car for an extended period of time and love it, then by all means make the sacrifice and the trade. The honeymoon will soon end with that car just as it ended in the Celica, but maybe you can get a couple of years out of that one too.

I love my Celica.... nothing else makes me feel as connected to the road as I am with the Celica.... even with sh*tty azz tires this car is amazing! Precise steering feel, handling predictability, great clutch engagement, great shifter, brakes are awesome, nice torque curve for a 4 cyl, hasn't gone sour on me yet(46,000miles), oh, and you have to love the engine noise.. in both the GT and GT-S.

Yota...

you're car is beautiful... the celica in general is beautiful... do what you want... it's your money...

the reason why i got a celica is cuz it was so original and so unique looking... but now everyone has one... so that's why i'm switching to something less frequent...

just remember to stay on the org!

Hmm...

I think some people just can't handle owning a car for very long. I suppose that's why one of my coworkers has owned about 4 different cars in the past 6 years. Of course he's in debt, too. :D

Some people mod the hell outta their car, and then, when they've modded all they can, they get bored, so they gotta get a new car to mod.

People get that itch, they want the newest and best thing (I can definetly see that with the EVO and WRX coming out), or they end up screwing up what they have already so they end up wanting a new car.

And of course, sometimes the car just doesn't fit the person, but man, that's a steep price to pay because ya didn't do your homework when you went car shopping.

But I tell you one thing, if I'm not happy with what I have, and I have the ability to change it, I'm not gonna stop myself from getting what I want.

Only one life to live, I have no kids yet, (no kids + double income = money) and I'm selfish. :D

First off ArchAngel is dead on. This car is fun, don't get me wrong. But compared to when I am in the Rex (WRX) the Celica handles crisper. It stays stuck on the road not as much advantage as all wheel drive but the first thing when I got the wrx home I had a rattle when I shift. It bugs the hell out of me. My Celica doesn't have any rattles the clutch is a lot better/grabs closer to the ground and is easier to drive at high speeds. The WRX has power steering and that is not the thing to have at high speeds. The power assist rack n pinion of the Celica is much easier to maintain in a straight line at high speeds. Plus I get about 7-10 mpg better out of it than the WRX. Also the WRX likes 93 a lot more than 91 for you Cali peeps. If you have the money get both. But if you don't wait until a viable FI option comes available for the Celica. You will have a lot less problems with the Celica. I do have to say I like my Subie service guys a lot more than toyota's though :) But all in all the Toy is put together a little better. Everything clicks like it belongs there the Subaru is like a 7 ft tall basketball player get him on a court and he is a real powerhouse have him play something else and he is just all gangly and don't quite fit. I say keep the Celica or wait pay it off and then buy the WRX or by that time the STI.

WRX isn't all that IMO.. I've driven one. My cousins just bought his back in Aug and I've driven da shiet outta that car. It does have that kick due to turbo.. but nothing special.. i like the stock momo steering wheel tho... Looks, style, handling and all. i will take the Celica anyday.... i don't think i will keep my car for long either.. i wanna trade it in for either GS-R or Type R if my finance allows me to do so...

Well, I have been talked into keeping it by my GF. She brought up some good points. I was thinking of selling it, and just keeping my Si, since I owe a lot less on it and mods are cheaper. But my Celica is one of a kind, or at least it will be within the next few weeks when my new bodykit arrives. Nobody else will have it for a while, and even then, mine will still be unique due to other reasons. I just wanted to save money to buy a house, and to pay for my wedding next year, but we do make enough money to keep the Celica.

If you guys think celicas give you problems and buying a WRX for solution to the problems its no the brightest idea. My friend back home in Greece has the European version of WRX, 265hp; correct me if i am wrong. Before he had a Type R and he regret of buying the WRX. Has so many problems after 30,000 miles and quality is crap. For power definetely its a choice but that's all it has an advantage to cars like celica.

Here's what an SCC editor told me when I asked a similar question:

In that price range, however, nothing can come close to the
WRX for out of the box performance or upgrade potential. We just made 40 hp
for $1000 on ours. Nothing can touch that.

-Dave Coleman

That being said, the Celica is a still a nice mix of good performance and great looks. It's just not the best car in this class for all-out performance and mod-potential. Depends on what you want.

Not at all. I am not bored with it, just wanting to save money. My GF said the hell with that idea. Keep the damn car, it is your baby. When I tell her that she is more important, she tells me that I have had my car longer and she knows how much I truly love it. :D She likes to watch me work on it, she says it really turns her on. That's a good reason to keep it right?? hehe I just think it's cool that she understands me and my hobbies. My ex met me the way I am now, and tried to change me. Yota, I'm hearing you. I love my Celica and I've actually went from an automatic GT to a manual GTS because of the hype (and truth) of the Celica. Members here have unbelievable cars, but I can't keep up with the mods. And as much as I love (really, I love my car) I have this urge to just break out to an M sport (3, roadster, coupe) or the new 350Z. But what I've learned is you do what's best for you and what you feel is the best for your driving experience. But I'm really feel'n that Z or even the G35 Coupe.

Im getting practically a new engine because it decided to want to break at 31k (Not a misshift mind you) but anyways. I have a friend who has a WRX, and it has like 3,000-4000 and already has a new transmission in it. So I would say if anyone is leaving the celica due to problems, needs to do some research on their next vehical.

I just picked up a celica yesterday!!! wooohooo. I love this car. I drove it to work and now to lunch and some stranger drives by in the parking lot and says, "hey man, nice car" and takes off.

I'm like holy cow, i mean, it's like the second day I've had this car, not even 12 hours yet and bamm... out of nowhere a compliment. It's a great car, if you can keep it, do so.

I mean it's up to you, my co-worker sees a car and only sees a car as four tires on some thingy you can sit in... and it moves. I've put up a poster of a celica at work a couple months ago. I can't believe it. She knows very little about cars, but now she's able to recognize a celica when one drives by!
