My stereo setup is kinda ghetto and i wanna improve on it. Specifically I've seen ppl mount their amps on the back of the seat.. Now where exactly do you drill into the seat so taht the amps will stay in firmly?

i felt the back of the seats and there are some metal bars that run down it for support, do i just drill directly into those bars and then use some short screws to mount them?

there's a metal frame in the back of each seat that you can mount the amp to... just make sure you are drill into a flat part of the frame. You can remove the carpeting to see the frame better.

why not just mount it to the amp?

????

Anyways ya mount it there or if you have a box that is full size of your trunk you can mount it flush on the top or on the back of that. I'm mounting my amp down in the spare and then have 2 small 10s on the sides. since I got no back seats...

okay, i spent a good 4 hours mounting the amps onto the backs of my seats and rewiring everything.. now it looks pretty good.. only problem i have is the ground is a tad short so i can't really fold down my seats.

Where did you ground your amps for those that mounted the amps to the seats?

I grounded beneath the rear seats.

isn't that near the gas tank?? did you drill a new ground, or use an existing bolt?

This migh be a dumb question but, if you mount the amp to the seat backs , stradeling both of the seat backs, can you still fold down the seats?
I know you would have to fold both backs together but, is it practical if you just wanted to lower them ocasionally to load some long object in the back?

I realize you would have to be careful not to damage the amp but, is is practical?

I`m looking to get a Kicker amp and I really don`t see any other way to mount it.

yeah its still practical.. you just leave a towel or small blanket in ur trunk so that when the time comes that you need to move something, you just lower the backs of the seats and cover the amps w/ the towel..

amps are made pretty durable.. they can withstand things being placed on top of them.. even tho they may get scratched up.. but mine doesn't look that good anyway.. so i don't really care .

I mounted some box material that I had carpeted on the seat backs first. I fit it so it covers the entire back of the seat. I mounted my amps on that. You probably want to to something like this if you're mounting an amp across both seats. It will make it more sturdy.

OK, today I talked to the guy that is installing my sys in a week.

The main thing I discussed with him is where to mount the Kicker amp (KX700.5) which is about 22" long.
We both agreed that mounting it across the seat back wasn`t the way to go.

So, what he suggested is that he would mount it along the right side of the trunk, standing on edge on a custom made, carpeted mount. This way it will be out of the way, tucked in the corner and will make for a cleaner install because there wont be wires runng anywhere but along that side and wil be covered by the removable mount. The only wire that will really have to be run across the trunk floor in for the Kicker sub and even that will be run in front of that plastic tray thing and will hardly be seen.
He does a lot of custom work like this

In othewords, It will be mounted perpendicular to the trunk floor, on the custom mount, as close to the plastic trim panel as practical, completely out of the way.

I like this idea and told him to do it. Of course he will be charging me a litte extra for this (just a verry little :)) but, you could make something like this yourself verry easily.

one general note on grounding yor wire to the car frame:

dremel/sandpaper the paint from that spot on the frame...that way you got a good metal-to-metal ground...
