Hey everybody, i recently noticed that ive been getting less gas mileage...for example...last night i put in $18 and it gave me half a tank today i traved around 60 miles and im almost down to a quarter of a tank...i have intake and exhaust. What could be causing this, and dont say crazy driving because ive been keeping it pretty low key. Let me know thanks guys.

It could be a lot of things. I would start with a simple fuel system cleaner and the cleaning of your MAFS. Next, check things like tire pressure, air filter (especially since you have a CAI), and the spark plugs. Also, try turning your AC off as I know it sucks to drive around with it off but it truly does suck up some extra gas when you have your AC on. It is also possible that you could have some bad gas. If you have been traveling in a lot of stop and go traffic it could be something as simple as that, stop and go traffic with your AC on. If it is not any of that then I have no clue unless something is up with your ECU but if that was the case I would imagine it would be throwing some kind of code.

They proved that thats only true at idle. When the car was in motion at 35mph+ the a/c only resulted in like a 2% mpg difference.

if its stop and go traffic then thats about right. So you went from half a tank to a quarter tank in 60 miles? You will usally know if theres something wrong with the maf, the car will run different.

Maybe on an 8 cyl. car... but it's worse than -2% on 6's & 4's...

You are both in TX... could be fuel related... they do the ethanol change? Switched to summer mixture? Or did you put in E85 by accident?

You can't measure your gas mileage by the bars you have to measure it by tank. The bars aren't very accurate.

try seafoam. clean filter, check plugs, check tire pressure, if you have a lot of crap in your car, take it out.

dont drive so much with the ac/heater. be a little less leadfooted.

if im not lead footed, i will easily get 400-450 on a full tank. i usually go to 150 on the first 1/4 tank.

:werd:

In order to accurately measure it, you need to do a couple full tank fill-ups. The gas gauge is an estimate, not an exact. You could probably do the $18 a few times and come up with different results.

As for the A/C thing, I still swear to this day that I get better mileage with it on than off. If there wasn't so much humidity in the cabin when it's off, I'd mess with it now and actually get a number. If I am wrong, then the mileage difference is only like, 15 miles to a tank difference and that could be from a different driving style than the tank before.
