Ok so i was supposed to pick up my car from the shop, but it wasnt ready yet so my friend and I had a couple of hours to kill... so we get the bright idea to go test driving (i'm sure you all have done this before so dont laugh).
Here is my rap up...
1st car - Montecarlo SS (went to the chevy dealer looking to drive a Camaro SS but thats all they had.. oh well. The car was SLOW... didnt respond well and the steering wheel began to shiver at 75 mph).
2nd car - Mustang GT AT (my friend loves mustangs so i made him the favor. didnt like it one bit so then we test drove the....)
3rd car - Mustang GT MT (huge difference from the AT. I actually kinda like it. Has great pick up... yet weird shifter).
4th car - Camaro SS (yes we drove 25 miles to the next dealer to find one! OMG... way better than the mustang gt. I loved the car... nice 3rd gear chirps... we almost died).
5th car - Suburu WRX (I had never driven one before so what the hell! IT WAS FUN!!! The guy from the dealer drove first.. took a turn around at like 60 mph! It was awesome!! Then i drove... damn, liked it a lot).
6th car - Toyota Matrix (had to drive it.... and let me say, yea its a beautiful car... BUT I DIDNT LIKE IT AT ALL AS FAR AS HOW IT DRIVES... no balls!!!!).
and finally...
7th car - Toyota Celica GTS (used to own one... so i pretended not to know much about it so that I can drive it.... hehe, i miss my celi, so I took one for a spin. IT WAS FUN!) :)
ok... so my friend loved the camaro ss... and dont get me wrong, i did too! It was freakin hella fast... but for some reason.. i must say! I had the most fun driving the WRX. hehe i dunno why, i just liked it! Anyway.. just thought i'd share my experience with you all. I'm sure you all have driven these cars before... what do you all think?!?

my cousin works as a mechanic for chevy for 5 years now. He has been tellin me the same thing about those monte carlos for a while now... They are horrible at holding the road and don't ride nice at all. The camaros are great performance wise, but are supposedly on the list to be removed from production due to lack of sales. I am saving my money right now to buy the new nissan Z car in august. That should be hella cool also.

hey i heard the WRX tranny is weak, cuz its adapted from the base impreza, with 160 hp. 60 more hp, same tranny. at least that's what i heard. and is it hard to shift from 5th to 4th? my dad has driven stick for a long time and we test drove it (we might be getting a new car) he couldnt find 5-4 in motion. when it was parked u just release to middle and pull back, but no can do in motion. i think just cuz of that we're not getting a WRX, or was it just that particular car?

should have tried the RSX-S while you were at it. my g/f has one, drives really sweet, tight and reactive.

As far as the tranny goes on the WRX (hereafter referred to as "rex") there are guys running stock tranny with 390 hp. They say you should change it if you are going to run more than 280 whp but if you don't have to you don't have to. The rex also takes a little while to get used to driving having driven quite a number of sticks in my life as well it is completely different. However it is a tremendously fun car to drive especially where I live because there are maybe 10-15 in the whole Cincinnati area with 2mil people so noone is expecting a 5 sec 4 door car..

0-60 times..... and its a sedan... i guess.... it can hang with the big boys: porsche boxster, older M3, M roadster, S2k
my cousin had a porsche boxster.... traded it in for a rex.. dunno what he thinks about it tho. he needs new shocks for sure tho

well the guy at the dealer showed me a brochure...and the rex was being compared to the porche (911 Carrera 4). It had only a .4 sec difference. that might be a lot, but when u compare the price... thats not too shabby!!

Man I wish you guys would just say WRX for the WRX, instead of rex. Rex is the term for an rx-7. I keep reading and Im like WOAH! he got an rx-7! Then I realize you just drove a wrx. yeah...

Maybe the RX-7 forum can duke it out wit the WRX forum and see who can keep the "rex" name.
How old are you to be able to test drive all these cars? I couldn't even test drive a car without bringing my parents. I look kinda young like 15-16ish so salesman usually just try to **** me around.
You are definitely the type of person car salesmen would like to take into the back lot after hours and beat over the head with a lug wrench.

I test drove RSX-S , it feels exactly like my GT-S..
I redlined the rsx, but couldn't tell where the kick in is..is it because it's not broken in??

i dont know, i think you have to be 18 to test drive cars. Only the first dealer (chevy when i drove the montecarlo SS) asked for my drivers license. The others i guess figured i was over 18... (i'm 19). For all the cars though.. the guy went along for the ride.. u can never test drive on your own to really know what the car has. =/

I hate people like you............wasting other persons valuable time and their products. Car sales guys are not on hourly / or salary base.
You're the reason why sometimes dealers will not allow people to test drive certain hot cars unless "deposits" are put down.
I hope I can find out what you do for living so I can waste your F***ing time.
Loser.

Ok for 1... 3 out of the 5 guys were freakin young like early 20's and said that we could go back whenever we wanted to "test drive again, or just take one for a spin" those were the exact words that came out of their mouths. They said they love taking out sports car and running emm up and down the street. They said they love IT... much better then testing trucks.. etc.
2nd... thats the way i bought 2 of the 3 cars i've owned. We just went out looking at cars... and now I know what I like and dont like. It would be a waste of someone's time if I drove something i wasn't even interested in. All of the cars were interesting and I wanted to see what they had to offer. I'm not necessarily looking for a new car this second.. but you never know when u will fall in love with one, u trade yours in and get it... AND I KNOW THIS HAPPENS BECAUSE IT'S ALREADY HAPPEN TO ALOT OF US!!
And 3rd I am a bartender at Bennigan's in Brownsville, TX... feel free to come by at ANY TIME! I'll make ya a drink... maybe thats what ya need to calm down ;)
oh and by the way... "wasting people's valuable time"?!?!? HAHAHA...those guys are dying for us to come in there. EVERYTIME we would walk into the lobby there they are standing around twiddling their thumbs. I doubt they mind taking me for a spin because i want to learn more about a certain car.
Geeesssshhh... calm down!! :)

Untrue. Many car sales begin with an innocent test drive. Example:
Week 1: I'll drive it for fun even though I don't need a new WRX. I am happy with my 1992 Mercury Topaz.
Week 2: Here are the keys to your WRX sir. We have taken the Topaz to the service lot and bashed in all of the windows with a hammer.
It's all part of the game. Have you ever gone to Best Buy just to pick up a CD and walk out with an XBOX? People do, it's called impulse spending. And yes, it even happens with cars. I am figuring you are just a unsuccesful car salesman that is bitter because he can't make his quota. I remember the cool salesmen who let me take cars out, and they usually get my sale. Get with the program or find a new job.

I don;t know you but I think YOU are a loser for calling other people as such for doing what dealerships are there for. Test driving is part of the sales process, for some ti is at the end, for others it is the beginning,
UpperJames-I don't know you but I do know you act like a jacka55.

fastest1..........I understand your point but when you read the beginning of this forum...it clearly states that he had 2hours to kill so why not!!! I know that TD is a big part of it....I just don't like the fact that the guy is trying every car in the city just so he can enjoy himself. But regardless it's his choice.

Lets try to keep things friendly here. It's fine if you disagree, but don't start bashing. No one has really bashed you yet.

Upper-thing is when i bought my celica I had gone in and test drove 6 months earlier when I was not able to afford it. 6 months later I came in, found the young sales guy who had been cool about me goofing around before and told him we needed to talk price-he got a relatively easy sales he never expected just because he was cool enough about the TD 6 months earlier that I remembered him and made sure he got due when the time came
so u think this guy should have beaten me for "wasting" his time 6 months earlier?

On a side note you say he is the reason some dealers make you put a deposit down to drive the latest and greatest car... So let me get this straight, you don't want him to have fun test driving cars and ruin the chance for you to do the same? This is obviously what you are saying because if you are "serious" about buying the car a $500 deposit to test drive it won't be an issue.

The WRX tranny is the same as Early Legacy Turbo (91-94). It is holding up find at 144,000miles on original clutch. I have the car so I know.

I don't know about you guys, but i went to the Nissan dealer looking at a Spec-V and they all but dragged my ass over to a maxima and handed me the keys. Sad thing is they were going to let me have it for $380 a month lease. That was very tempting. Point is these people WANT you to take a test drive. They know 90% of the people don't buy, but a lot of that 10% is hooked on the test drive. I test drive quite a bit of cars. Not because I necessarily want to buy them, but want to see what is out there.
I remember test driving a Celica GT and thinking it didn't have any balls so the sales person said hey come drive this Solara. I didn't like the shifter in that either and didn't think it was fast. Guess fast is relative when you drive a 300+ hp (low daily driving boost) AWD. :) A year later at the same toyota dealer i went and looked at the matrix. Never intending to drive one, but the salesperson whipped out the keys and off we went. I actually liked the way the Matrix XRS drove. Now i'm interested in buying either that or a Spec-V. Though toyota wanted $360 for a lease on the XRS. Get real, for the $20 difference i'd get a maxima and 75 extra hp. Anyway I wasn't really serious about the XRS or the Spec-V, but the test drive hooked me on both of them. Trust me you are NOT wasting the sales person's time. Now I just have to decide which one to get.

Hey guys.... I used to work at the Toyota Dealer..
It's mandatory to test drive...
It doesn't matter they buy it or not.... they must test drive and make them like the car.... it's either they like it or hated..
But there a some jack offs that just want to bother salesperson for fun.. those type of peoples are a$$holes... needs to be a$$ kicked....
