I just noticed that when the car is warmed up from being cold to 2 clicks up on the temp, the car allows you to go into redline, but on 1st gear, the lift is felt at 7k instead of 6k.
When the temp is 3 clicks up (or halfway), the lift kicks in normally at 6k.
I was wondering if this was normal?

You should be able to hit lift as long as your coolant level is about like 62 degrees or close to it....there are many times i can hit lift soon as she starts up...

sometimes with me if its at 2 clicks it cut off at about 6500 so i dontknow!!?

I was driving this morning and I remembered your post so as soon as I hit two clicks I tried lift and it kicked in at my normal RPM, ~6200.

there are a couple things that need to happen in order for lift to engage... and one of them so happens to be a specific water temperature...

You should really wait until your engine is fully warmed to hit lift anyway.

Thank you ..thats what i said..

and guys....in order for the temp of the water to get there....the engine has to be hot anyways....

Today, My car was fully warmed up to 3 clicks, and I went into lift on 1st gear, I didn't hear the change in sound nor the surge of power of the lift. I went up to 8k in 1st before shifting to 2nd and at 7.8k or so the change of sound and the surge occured.
IT felt like the car didn't know or wasn't expecting me to push the car past 6k or that the lift wasn't ready and was caught unexpectedly.

I was surprise so I tried this again after awhile, it kicked in normally.
I am guessing that maybe I didn't touch petal to the metal but i'm not sure.
Someone try going into lift without gunning the petal and see if you get similar symptoms.

Just a pont of note - your Temp gauge is not analog - its an analog to digital to LED conversion... its not super precise. Also the temp shown is being interpreted by the combination meter wheres the lift decision is made by the engine ECU

But anyways the ECU waits until it is warm and in closed loop operation to give you variable lift. Variable timing starts a teeny bit sooner. This is normal I've seen teh exact same thing on a 2000, a 2001 and a 2002 - don't let it worry you. As long as once the car is fully warm (2 to 3 minutes of good hard driving) lift applies normally its all good.

Also - first apply of lift each day can tend to be a little sluggish sometimes if its really cold or teh cars been sitting a long time - thats normal too,

You must also have oil pressure, which obviously you have or else your car would be throwing MILs at you.

If you don't give the engine the air it needs you're not going to notice a damn thing when it switches into 2nd cam. Wait for the engine to warm up, put the pedal to the floor at 3000RPM in 1st gear, and hold it there. If you don't notice a power surge at about 6200RPM then there's a problem.

You should always feel the 2nd cam change at about 6200 rpm. Not 7000. It does not vary with temperature. Either it engages or it does not.

Nods - it should always apply at 6200 - ONCE WARM - should not apply at ALL before then. thats engine protection logic thats built in.

Ever read your owners manual?

Come on I'm not an idiot
i know what i'm taliking about.

The temp was in the middle (3click up) , fully warmed up and driving for like 5 minutes before I tried going into lift.
I never experience this strange kick in before. no lift until 7.8k right before shifting. The llift on 2nd gear is normal and works all the time. Peculiarly, the 1st gear gives me trouble.
I thought about what some of you guys said that the temp gauge is not always precise but after 5 minutes at the middle mark, everything should have been fully fucntioning.

If there is something wrong with the lift mechanism, then shouldn't it affect alll gear not just 1st?

I've confirmed it today.
Even when it's fully warmed up and drving for 10 minutes.
The lift on 1st didn't come on at 6k instead it took hold all of a suddent at after 7k. 2nd was fine.

I's not because I'm used to the lift or anything since, other times the lift kicks in at 6k.

The first lift usually has problems and so if I do the lift 10 times, 6 times out of 10, there is this erratic kick in.

Anyone have these issues?
What can it be?
I think i ruled out the mafs beign the factor.
