Ok I haven't had any problems with my belt tensioner, but recently I've noticed (mostly when I start my car in AM) that it is beginning to make the noise of a squeaking belt, becoming more and more often.
Is this a sign that the tensioner is going???

I just had mine go out on me *You WILL know when it is bad/sounds nasty*...Parts are covered by warr. (except any belts that may need to be replaced and I think I paid some labor)

Mine did the same thing, I took it in, and the tensioner is getting replaced this week.

How long does it take for them do the job on the belt.. I hate leaving my car some where while people work on it.

Hey Cabel,
There was a Canadian TSB issued for our belt tensioner February 2001. Most likely the squeeking is an issue related to the belt tensioner. Simply ask the parts manager to look up the TSB and tell him/her you would like it fixed. Hope this helps...BTW, I had mine replaced last week.

sounds like it. My dealer took less then a day to replace the belt and tensioner, as well as fix something in my A/C (evap hose came off, woulda done it myself but I was there anyways, so what the hell). Dropped the car off at 8:30am, got it back 3 in the afternoon same day.

They told me it would take about three hours. I'm getting my c/c, 5th gear synchro, and my belt tens. fixed at the same time, so they said it would take two days...summed up though...three hours.

Its only covered on your 36k mile basic warranty. I'm at 43k and they won't even look at my car unless I pay 80 bucks. I hate that sound.

my belt was squealing at 9K miles. I dont have the patience for the dealer to look at it and make appointments and all that crap. So i replaced it myself. takes 2 minutes... was very easy and cost 20$ for the belt.. the stock belt was dried out bad because of the heat held in the engine area probably from the way its designed. I thought it was a tensioner at first but figured out it was the belt. If you let it idle and hold a wire brush up against the outside of the belt near the alternator it will lightly scuff the belt. If the noise goes away immediately than its not the tensioner, its the belt. If it keeps squealing than most likely the tensioner has failed like the TSB says.

Interesting, I'll check it out, my belt is even newer from when I installed my AEM pulley so shouldn't be belt but I'll check it.
