Hey my celica is a 2000 gts and its got around 66000 miles on it and the lift isn't really kicking in anymore. Now my thoughts with everything that I'm reading is that they are either worn or broken. I bought this car around 58000 miles and assume that the bolts had never been replaced. Anyways I keep calling all the toyota dealers in chicago and most of them don't know what lift bolts are and won't replace them unless the check engine light is on. I was wondering if anyone in chicago knew a place that knew what they were doing or had any advice on it. I'm thinking about just buying lift bolts myself and replacing them but am worried that my current ones could be broken off. Anyways any advice would be nice.

Toyota refers to them as Flang Bolts, however non of them even know what your talking about until you bring the TSB to them.

First of welcome to newcelica.org. Also the best info for changing the lift bolts is [URL=http:www.teamcelica.com/tech/installs/liftbolts/[/URL]. Go to your local toyota dealer and ask for part#90105-06293 make sure that you get 2 of them should only cost 50cents each. If you have toyota do the install they will probally charge you $500 or more and wont even change them <not kidding. If you feel worried about doing it yourself you can come to Davenport and Ill do it for you for free.< about 1.5hour drive. The whole install only takes about 1-2hours depending on your skill level. Luckily mine were not broken but if they are it is a totally different story. It would require you using a bolt extractor and hopefully not messing up the engine.

Thanks for the responses I will probably just pick up the part and do it myself maybe have my dad help since i've never screwed around inside my engine before. I guess I can just cross my fingers and hope they arent broken.

My best advice is to take everything slow, and try not to lose any bolts. Also the back bolt on the valve cover towards the windsheild is a pain in the a$$ to get but you can use a regular wrench< I did. Also remember not to overtighting anything are engines are all alluminum. Good luck. let me know if they were broken or not.

THERE SHOULD BE A STICKY SAYING THAT "LIFT BOLTS" ARE REFERRED TO AS FLANGE BOLTS, AND THAT YOU NEED TO TAKE THE TSB WITH YOU WHEN YOU GO TO THE DEALER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I see so many of these threads saying that toyo mechanics are stupid, they just dont come across the 2ZZ all that much.

its pretty easy to fix. what i did was take my valve cover off and unbolt bolts were the oil pressure is at on the right side but you will have to move the battery out of the way and i use this tool looks like a screw driver but shap like a sharp cone with grip to turn your rods around but yea sounds hard but when you open it you will see what im talking about if you think you can do it your self and need help on it i can help you over the phone or go to the members shop its free thats good and a good guy.......so if you need help hit me back

I just ordered my lift bolts from toyota and picked them up a few weeks ago. they cost less than 2 dollars for the both of them! And the install really is not that hard. THe way they do it, its out of control, but there is really a simple way. I wish I had the schematic for you. My buddy has it for me. Its les then 45 minutes to do yourself. I have 83000 now on my celica. Its time to get her done up. (does this help?)

Hey guys I have been real busy lately but I actually picked up a pair of the bolts and brought it to this shop that my uncle owns. He was able to fix it for me even though the one bolt was broken and stuck in there. It feels like I'm driving a whole new car. Anyways thanks for the help!

Wow thats great news. I guess its nice knowing someone that owns their own shop. That would have cost serious $$$ for anyone else to have done. Did he extract the broken bolt also?.Theese new bolts are tapered where the old ones were getting worn at and they are also stronger but I still suggest changing them every 25k miles just to be on the safe side.

Yeah he got the old bolts out, I'm not too sure what he used I was at work while it was going on. It took him an hour or so I think to get the broken bolt out. I told him if for some reason he needed to change my oil to keep any metal shavings out (not knowing how he was getting the bolt out) that he could since I was about 100 miles away from needing one. So I ended up getting my oil changed too without costing anything. The only reason I didn't think to take it to him sooner was that I thought it was a toyota specific fix and that other mechanics wouldn't know how to fix it. I printed out that guide for him though just incase he didn't know but from what he said afterward it sounded like he knew what the whole deal was. If you are in chicago and need it done I'm sure he would be able to do it for you except it probably wouldn't be free. Anyways let me know and I can give anyone who wants it the name of the place.
