In the united states alone... i pulled these numbers off of the toyota pressroom pages...

2000 - 53,000
2001 - 36,000
2002 (to date) - 8700

total - 97,700 celicas on the road... thats a lot... i have model year 2000 serial number 003502 ... thats only 3502 cars into production.. no wonder i had so many problems with the damn thing!!

Damn, that is alot of Celicas out there!

As for the number on your car...back in Dec of 99 I remember people going crazy asking what number celica they had because of the number stamped on the car.

As far as I know, that number doesnt mean which number Celica you have...I know this because there were several people on the boards who had the same number. :)

BTW, myn is 000524 or something like that.... :)

i dont think you can have the same serial number... that would defeat the purpose wouldnt it...

Compare that to the number of civics sold, or in a couple years the number of RSX's and that's prob a clear indicator of why our aftermarket kinda blows. I would have thought it would have been a lot higher.

i believe the mustang sells 170,000 cars a year..

i honestly thought the celica would be doing above 100,000, they seem decently common around here..

Some of those Celicas aren't on the road any more. I bet the RSX will not sell as many units. I have seen way more Matrixes (and of course Celicas) on the road than RSXs, and the RSX had a 6 month head start.

My first Celica had "No. 390" on the VIN plate, but the last part of the VIN was 0008847.
So what does that make it? The 8000th or the 390th?

Sorry for the misunderstanding...I didnt mean that they will have the same VIN number...as thats impossible...I am talking about the other number written near the VIN. :)
